Bell's Hopslam 2016

I actually didn't do this as I had planned, I ended up drinking mostly home brew and only had one hop slam all weekend. I'll most likely leave this till Superbowl weekend to do.

 

And they never have any idea when shipments are coming in.

 

I know Ohio is slated to get Hopslam starting this week. Cincinnati area starting 2/9.

There are a couple "pre-release" tappings in Cincinnati this Sunday.

 

Yup. I don't deal with their limited release garbage any more if I can avoid it. Shelf Beers they're great with - but anything with any hype behind it they're useless unless you're buddies with someone that works there or are willing to go there 3-4 times to get what you want.

Had a friend in Michigan this weekend - had him bring me back 2 cases + 1 Mini Keg that I just picked up from him this morning. Said his local store had it stacked floor to ceiling. Beats the hell out of going Binnys 4 times to maybe get a case.

 

Please post the results - I'm interested. Its been said that unlike Dogfish 120 this won't hold up over time. Interested to hear from someone that's actually attempted it.

 

Why is this always the case? I get that they don't want to make promises they can't keep, but it's always a vague answer. Maybe this is the issue with all liquor stores. Wouldn't it be in both the distributor and the stores best interests if the store knew what it was getting? It makes everything a headache for everyone

 

Sorry, I just received info that it will be at Cappy's in Loveland next Monday 2/1/16.

I'm going to do a 2015 and a 2016 side by side. I've actually heard the opposite, that it brings out the honey in the beer.

 

The staff at the Binny's I go to are clueless about shipments. For example, in early December I asked when the next batch of 12/1 Abrasive cans were coming and they said they were not getting any and then less than a week later they got 7 cases. This has happened with other beer shipments I inquired about. Most of the time I get "I don't think we are getting any" to "I don't know if or when we are getting any."

 

It is pretty frustrating to me that people are getting this out of state already and it hasn't even fulfilled the Michigan distro yet? Still waiting on the east side.

 

I know people on the east side got it, and there is supposed to be more this week or next. You do have to be on top of it and get into the store rather quickly from what I've heard, though.

 

There were multiple cases sitting on the shelves at Meijer in Ann Arbor yesterday.

 

Landed in metro Milwaukee area today. Saw it for $60 a case and $33 for a mini keg.

 

Got a 6-pack for $16.49+tax in Madison, WI today. Mini kegs available, also.

I always felt that Hop and Wine took forever! Thanks for the confirmation. I get tired of stalking the stores and asking if something's come in a thousand times. With beers as volatile as Hopslam, they should put forth a conscious effort to get them to the store as quick as possible. Anyways. I hope to see it soon! Thanks again!

 

For some reason I thought mini kegs would be general store only, it will be interesting to see how they sell

 

I hate to be one of those guys that says a beer tastes different but the past few years Hopslam has been very disappointing. About ten years ago it was the DIPA that blew my mind & turned me into a hop junkie. If my memory serves me correctly it was loaded with citrus notes but recently it tastes overtly piney & the booze dominates.

I know this could be chalked up to my palate changing or perhaps it's because there are so many great DIPAs on the market compared to a decade ago. No offense to Bell's but i am more excited about Hop JuJu coming out and it's a shame because I was such a Hopslam mark. I'll pick up a single this year and I hope it blows my mind again.

it is the binny's in Arlington Heights, on Rand. the Manager guy already sent me another e-mail that it would be the first week in Feb, not this week.

 

Not so sure it is worth the cash anymore. It used to be a unique beer, but now there are a ton of similar offerings.

 

Yeah as he said above, I remember last years was 4ish weeks old the day it hit Hampton roads.
For me its not really worth buying more than one or two bottles/cans anymore.
