I like Java Stout a lot. Up until last night I hadn't had it in about a year; I bought a six-pack yesterday in Indy that was bottled October 14, 2014.

The person sitting next to me noticed something floating in the beer. I messed around with it and it looked and felt like a slime-ball, for lack of a better term. As I drank the entire 6-pack last night, I noticed all 6 had this slimy thing in them - i dumped them into the sink then drank the beer.

I haven't done my research, but wanted to ask here... What is this slimy sediment stuff?! Will I get sick?! Just curious what is going on here. I've had stouts fresh and aged, never have dealt with this.

...you drank an entire six pack of Java Stout? Impressive!

It happens. My experience has been that it happens more often in coffee stouts, not sure of the reason. Always happens to me with Terrapin Wake 'n' Bake. It won't make you sick.

Call up all of your past sexual partners brother- not because you drank the slime, but because you're drunk on java stout!

Probably a substance from the proteins and yeast in the beer. It's safe, unpleasant but safe.

It's coagulated proteins. Yucky, but safe.

I wasn't serious about getting sick. I'm fine. Tough crowd!
I got my answer tho. It can happen with anything aged in barrels, with beans, vanilla, etc. and/or the yeast & proteins settling
    Thanks.
