For those who filled out the recall form or are debating in doing so, I just got a letter in the mail back from Bell's after filling out the Mercury recall form (http://bellsbeer.com/contact/mercury-recall/). I was shocked to find that they gave me and others a $25 coupon code to use online or in the store for merchandise at their store. This also included free shipping and no tax so Bell's has handled this recall VERY well in my opinion. I got a Hopslam snifter, pint glass and some other random stuff for my bar. This is a great consultation prize for the bad beer that was Mercury.
Bell's was worried there *could* be glass in, not that there was. They proactively pulled it just in case.
The recall was due to potential glass in the beer, I drank one before I realized that this recall was taking place and wasn't impressed. I mentioned this being a consolation prize because I was not happy with the beer itself, it is not worthy of having Bell's name on it, IMO
Well considering they gave $25 to people who bought 1 bottle or 1 case I don't think it was handled that well. They are perfectly capable of remaking the batch if they really believe it was good beer. Maybe they do not have that much faith in the product.
If they know which batch of bottles were bad and where those bottles went, then yes a recall can be to only one state/county/store.
Yeah, they said it was a single pallet of bottles from their bottle supplier, so it was a pretty isolated issue.
Has Bell's ever recalled any bottles in a similar fashion before? I attended the tour at their production facility in Comstock about 3 weeks ago - just a week or two before this recall. I learned on the tour that every bottle is dropped a foot before being shipped out from their production facility. This test is done with the idea in mind that if each bottle survives this drop test, it should be able to survive any other drop that it may encounter from production to retail. I wish I had asked for elaboration. I presume the drop was done with the bottles in their cases but I don't know if they do it that way or not.
