I was actually just looking at the highest rated beers in this style yesterday. And saw Bells, was wondering why I've never tried it. It not being bottled for five years may have something to do with that, color me excited.

You were looking at top number of reviews, not necessarily top rated. Here's the Top Rated Märzen / Oktoberfest on BA list -- don't see Bell's in the top 100.

Your comment made me wonder because I was surprised to see my recent 3.88 rating generate a +9% rDev. The overall score for the beer is an 81.

Bell's would have been a better pick up

Great Lake's Oktoberfest this year (again) was disappointing. Beautiful color and the start of it is very promising, but finishes with a stale cracker type note. It's the finish that ruined the beer experience for me on that one. Near the bottom of my list this year with Ballast Point the worst (practically a drain pour).

Damn, well that sucks. I've never had either but I will look for Bells next.

Bummer. I thought last year's GL Oktoberfest was pretty good, not great, which was disappointing given the hype. Concerning to hear this year's suffers a similar issue. And I agree about BP's Oktoberfest - not that great by any stretch.

For me, thus far, I've been most impressed with SN and Millstream's Oktoberfests. Both quite different, but delicious in their own ways. Of course, Metropolitan's Afterburner is always a standby, as is SA's - I know, not close to style, but I still love it.

Still waiting for Ayinger to hit my market. Then, oh yes, we'll really have something.

I think so far this year (have yet to pick up all the German goodies, all domestic so far), the top ones have been Fat Heads Okto, Victory Festbier and Wolf's Ridge Okto. Two of those sadly, draft only. Bells is right after those so far.

Look forward to the German ones soon here.

Bought a six pack this weekend. Awesome stuff. My fav so far this year next to SN. Will be buying a 12 pk if I find it.

Im guessing there is some caramunich in the grain bill. But to answer your question, no, it is not too sweet. It's one of the better American Oktoberfests

Just had a Bells. While not overly sweet as some Oktoberfest are it was still on the sweet side for me. I am drinking, trying to drink. BP Dead Ringer and its pretty awful. Smells good but there is a metallic finish I really don't like. So far SN has been my favorite but still not a style I love.

    Enjoy
