Hey- Besides the initial announcement from Bell's in regards to the Planet Series as a whole, I haven't seen (yet) any information as to an exact date in August for the first release (MARS). ??? Thanks.

I haven't either. I'm operating under the assumption of 8/1.

I am viewing the information given from Bell's as general guidelines. The beer will be released in close proximity to the month stated. Due to the nature of the business, it can be difficult for breweries to determine exact release dates for limited release, and sometimes seasonal, beers. Keep an ear to the ground.

I'll bet on a gen store release on 8/8 and distro on 8/12. 100% a guess

    Info from an article elsewhere:

“Mars, The Bringer of War” – Double IPA

“Venus, The Bringer of Peace” – A Blonde Ale brewed with honey, apricot, vanilla and cardamom

“Mercury, The Winged Messenger” – A Belgian Single

“Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity” – A malt forward Brown Ale

“Saturn, The Bringer of Old Age” – A Bourbon Barrel-aged Barleywine

“Uranus, The Magician” – Black Double IPA

“Neptune, The Mystic” – A beer inspired by Dr. Bell’s Medicinal Stout, one of Larry Bell’s homebrews that also helped inspire Eccentric Ale

I know everyone is going to try to get Saturn, which I am sure is amazing, but I want Mercury so badly... only Single I've had was at Piece in Chicago and it was amazing.

I'm definitely into this, with the possible exception of Jupiter.

Does Mars seem like a strange first beer to anyone? Considering that Oracle should be released sometime following the initial release of the Planet series. Unless the plans for The Oracle's release has changed and I'm not privy to it, it would be in the month following. I mean I am not opposed to two DIPAs in a row just seems odd to me.

so maybe this was answered somewhere else but is there a reason why they aren't doing a "Earth" beer?

nevermind I just found out why

The third beer of this Planet series from Bell's hit my local store today (Battle Creek). This one is called 'Mercury' which the label only defines as a Belgian Style Ale. I'll chill one to drink to be able to see if it's a White Ale or a Golden Ale, but those two styles are what I think of when a generic "Belgian style' wording is used. It was $11.99 for a 6-pack.

If my assumption is correct, we say this beer before as Mercurial, a Belgian style single. A nice, light belgian blonde. An enjoyable beer but not awe-inspiring.
