For those of us who aren't music nerds/music theory degree holders, think the soundtrack from Star Wars.

Clarification, cases were originally priced at $60 (tier 5), half way through the first day they changed the pricing to their tier 3, which is the $43. I stopped by the General Store, they happily refunded the difference due to pricing change. $43 is a ridiculous deal for this beer, I really cannot believe they are selling it at this pricing.

Ya Mars does remind me of that beer in aroma but Mars tastes more malty than the Larry's Latest DIPA was.

Ya I bought a 6er around 11:30 last Friday for 18 out the door. Seeing it at local bottle shops for the same price I figured this 43 dollar talk was some kind of confusion. Ya that is a crazy cheap price for this beer but since I only got one sixer I wouldn't go ask for a refund or anything. Thing is now all the bottle shops prices of 17 a sixer are crazy over priced.

My excitement for Mars is a tad tempered due to these comments of being on the malty side, but I know I'm still gonna jump at it as soon as it's here in IL.

On another note, and yes I know this is splitting hairs, but the entire Planet series has already been entered in to BA. The last one isn't even due out for almost a year! Just find that annoying....why enter a beer if you haven't had it, nor has been released yet. Karma ticking I guess.

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's an IPA with not enough malt. This one still has a lot of hops, but the malt backs everything up. It's really wonderful.

It bothers me that Mars is the first beer in the series. Apparently some one never graduated kindergarten. They took the time to plan out all of these beers with 2 months in between, so why wouldn't they release them as they appear in our solar system? Does it have to do with the theme music? Makes no sense to me. Brewing time doesn't count since they clearly planned it this way.

Yes, it has to do with the theme music.

    Good to know.

I bet Pluto is jealous. Missed this by 10-17 years. Music was conceived in 1913 and first performed in 1920 and Pluto was discovered in 1930. I bet Gustav would have been pissed if he originally included Pluto if the music was made after its discovery seeing as how Pluto is just a little dwarf now.

I know it's not part of the planet or whatever series but had the kalamazo hosolution. It was a drain pour. So sweet it was sad. (And it was from the tap)

To be more specific, I don't really get any toasted malt notes like in some IPAs but really a malty sweetness like in some hoppy barleywines like Behemoth or Bigfoot.

Its nice to know there's some people out there on BA who have good palates. All this "Mars is better than Oracle" talk... I call bullshit. Unless Oracle really sucks this year. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I go pick some up.

I feel you! But to be fair, Pluto was still undiscovered when Holst wrote the music :-)

The series order is based off of the Planets arrangement by Gustav Holst. That is why Mars is first.

Had Mars on draft last night along with Oracle. Mars was good but not nearly as good as Oracle was.
