So I just picked up a sixer of Bell's Third Coast Old Ale. I've heard this ages well. I've never had it before even though it's been on my list to pick up the last couple years. Bottle date is 9/5/2014 and it has the A identifier on the bottle which designates a 6 month shelf life.

Was the A identifier just a misprint since even on the bottle it says "commit some bottles to the cellar"? Sorry if this has already been discussed. I tried doing some searches and couldn't find anything.

They age rather nicely, although fresh on a growler is something to behold as well.

    Third Coast Old Ale

Third Coast Old Ale focuses on malt, offering notes of burnt caramel & other earthy malt flavors. Designed with vintage aging in mind, the malt aspect is matched to a heavy complement of hops. Sharply bitter at first, this will fold into the malt character over time and balance out the maltiness.

    Alcohol by Volume: 10.2%
    Original Gravity: 1.098
    Shelf Life: Unlimited
Dates Available: Winter, Limited in Spring
    Available Packages: Bottle and draft

One of the rare old ales/barleywines that drinks well fresh and aged. I prefer aged.

Interesting misprint. What should the "A" be?

It drank really well fresh. Unfortunately I don't think I have any left for aging.

Had it fresh about a month ago and it was really good.

Thanks everyone. That's what I figured because all of the info I found said it was a perfect candidate to age. The "A" was throwing me for a loop. I thought they changed titles for Third Coast Old Ale and Third Coast Beer for a minute.

A denotes 6 month shelf life, B denotes 12 month, and C denotes unlimited.
