Does anyone have this ? This is my first year having it and on their website it says its a Barleywine but it says Quadruple Ale on my bottle.
It was barleywineish back in the day. Then they starting messing with it and adding some odd stuff. Got really bad. It sadly seemed to morph into a different thing each year. Quad sounds better than the chocolate strong ale it was the last time I bothered with it.
I believe the new format is a different type of beer each year, moving away from the barleywine iterations of the past. Last year was a DIPA with gooseberries, which wasn't my cup of tea. This year seems a bit more straight forward, so Ill give it a go.
I’ve had it a few times on draft at my local this year. It’s a barleywine/quad hybrid IMO but with some subtle spice notes. Pretty tasty whatever it is. Side note, don’t try to go to Berkshire’s website, it’s just a hornets nest of pop ups & viruses. They really need to fix it.
I’ve always liked the old barlewine versions, typical BBC English style. Stopped buying it when they went off track. I’ll give this one a shot if it’s going back that direction
I picked up a 2017 and 2016 (not knowing it was a double IPA) at Julio's recently. The 16 wasn't great, but I'll blame that on it being a year old IPA. Looking forward to the quad.
Interested to try this year's version. I'm a huge fan of BBC Cabin Fever, so maybe I'll grab a Holidale while I'm at it.
