How have these guy managed to fly under the radar? Checked them out for my first time today and their beers were fantastic. Thought their dunkel on tap was great, their plum oud bruin really good, but their bourbon barrel aged coffee shwarzbier was off the charts fantastic....i enjoyed that as much as any BBA beer I have tried, and it has the advantage of being less than 10%abv. They're one of Denver's gems, IMO, and I wouldn't have known to check them out had a friend not recommended them to ne.
I've been a handful of times to Beryl's. It's probably style conflicts, but I've only really liked Firewalker and it's base beer (forgot what it's called) The fact that they do a lot of wine aged beers doesn't work for me. I don't care for their Baltic porter (Riga?) no matter what they do to it. Many times I go to Epic, I try Beryl's, but they just don't do enough in my wheelhouse to make them a go-to. Again, I don't dislike them, but I've been disappointed enough to not make them a staple.
Thanks for the tip! Haven't been yet but work nearby. They are definitely under the radar. The smaller RiNo breweries have been hit or miss so far. Thought Mockery was a joke (pun intended). Ratio is solid. The new German place, Bierstadt, is making amazing lagers.
I like Beryl's a lot. I have definitely been there a handful of times and would probably go more if it were close. I think they make solid beer and the atmosphere is great too.
I used to live right across the street and I mostly agree that Beryl's doesn't get enough credit. It may sound gimmicky but I enjoyed being able to compare and contrast a base beer with a BA version in the same sitting. Plus, the vibe there was always a little less bro-tastic than other RiNo spots.
