I am quite surprised so many BAs have some familiarity with this segment. I cannot ever remember buying a 40 oz anything. I do remember we tried OE800 at some point because it was brewed by Blitz-Weinhard at the time and we were big Henry W's fans. We are talking 4 decades back now.
Depends on what you drink. I still buy Mickeys now and again. There are two reasons for that. Sentimental value and I still like the beer. I think the OP asked best 40. Why fuck up the thread. Go elsewhere That would apply to @JackHorzempa as well
Theres no 40 oz bottles of Mickey's in my area and where I grew up. Its only sold in 6 packs of the grenade bottles. Thats what makes this a fun and interesting discussion because we all have different experiences on this particular subject.
I can’t remember the format but Millers High Life was definitely a large one, possibly 40oz when I was drinking it after a balmy day in Portugal.
Years ago I worked in a rough part of the city. Back then they called Old English 800 "LIQUID CRACK" I remember one time I was going in one of the little corner stores and I guy was walking out with his 40OZ Old English. This was about 10:30 am. He took about three steps out the door, unscrewed the cap , and literally chugged the entire 40oz down in one gulp. It was empty in just seconds. His eyes got all watery , let out a big burp, then nonchalantly smashed the bottle on the sidewalk, and went on his merry way. NO, it wasn`t Conan or Martha '
Remember when Lagunitas Sucks was only sold in a 32oz quart bottles? That was close enough to a 40 wasn’t it? Then something happened to the recipe in future years and the beer was a shell of its former self. That was a great beer in its hay-day.
Haven’t had a 40 oz in about 25 years but remember having a preference for Laser which was available at the Bodega next to the Laundromat (made doing my laundry just a touch better while living a very questionable area).
Saw this lineup at my local grocer today. Other side of the cooler had Bud and some other typical macros.
Sorry for the late reply: Found some change in the seat cushions- plus won ten bucks on the scratch-off
Olde English HG800 High Gravity is the only 40 I can remember buying. (It was sctually a 42, but who's counting?) Poured from a plastic bottle into a Miller Lite Taste Activator Glass™, it was actually quite good.
One of the liquor stores I go to a lot there are no 40s in the front cooler and they are banished to the walk in cooler and even in there they took them off the shelves and placed them all on the concrete bottom floor No respect for 40s at all.
