    Nice hedging

In all seriousness, this little activity has given me a bit more motivation to pick up some 2XIPA and Maximus. I see them quite frequently and never reach for them.

You caught that, huh? Haha. I just wanted to make sure people know that I'm not taking this too seriously or trying to be a know-it-all. It started off with me finding a new beer that I love, and wondering where it ranks against comparable beers. I just needed help from all of you to figure out what those beers are. I love great discussions on this site, and didn't want this to turn argumentative or snarky over the "list".

Sucks would be perfect if it were readily available!

Only a few DIPAs are very good, and none are widely available.

I guess this is where we would have to agree to disagree. I've had most of the DIPA's on the list I came up with and think they're all very good (when fresh). I've had many other DIPA's that I would consider excellent but aren't mentioned here because of availability, price, etc.

Best DIPA"s I have had were alchemy hour and double jack. Both are equally difficult to come by although my chances are better with alchemy hour. Captain lawrence makes a fantastic DIPA that goes relatively unnoticed but it is worth a try.

Availability and convenience do not make a beer good. All of these people that complain a beer isn't good if it's rare or exclusive are just having sour grapes and whining to whine. You don't have Pliny or Heady or Hopslam etc... Available in your area? Trade for some. The quality of a beer is the actual beer. How it smells. How it tastes. How it feels. Convenience and availability have nothing to do with it.

I agree that convenience and availability, along with price and a few other things have nothing to do with the quality of the beer itself, but I'm not looking to find the "best" DIPA's based on quality alone, rather a list of reasonably priced, quality DIPA's available to a large number of people on a fairly regular basis.

You'll find many DIPA's that are better quality than those on the list I came up with, but they don't fit the criteria for one reason or another - it's just two different discussions.

Its hard to narrow down. Even if you do eliminate all the DIPAs brewed with the dreaded crystal malt.

Keep in mind not everyone has access to the rare beer necessary to land Pliny/HT/Hopslam or wants to pay for the shipping costs.
