I am interested in your opinion on the best brewery in Australia and why.

I think they need to make a wide range of beers and one off releases.

Brewery's that come to mind are Murray's Mountain Goat & Feral but a brewery that has really improved its beer and range is Bridge road.

They have a good core range and some really good one off stuff and a day at the brewery is well worth the trip to Beachworth

My vote would be for Lukie's Lambic Factory. 'Our Beers Are As Sour As We Are'. Mr Dgilks bathtub is also a fine brewery.

On a serious note, I'm with Lukie. My heart says Nail for beer and non-beer related reasons.

Head says Feral for consistently producing quality beer after quality beer.

What should I be drinking from Nail apart from the Stout (which is great) ?

All of it. Especially Hughe Dunn Brown

i like the golden ale for a summer quencher although the sly fox destroys that

    favourite (wa biased) breweries are:
    feral - always solid releases
cheeky monkey - still a young brewery on the scene but red knocks out some great drops already
last drop - doesn't get the recognition it deserves, the hefe is one of the best available imports included

I'm a case in point. They just slipped my mind. Jan does some smashing beers! Is a
fantastically good guy and is also probably the most physically impressive man I have ever met in real life. The only person I know that can leap onto the back of a ute holding a full keg.

The production set up is quite beautiful too.

I like Last Drop also, I need to get out to the Bedfordale location. From memory pints are some of the cheapest in Perth. Although have never been taken by the "Pure beer for a wicked world" slogan. Must translate into something interesting in German or Czech!
I also need to try this Sly Fox.

Can you wait until the end of the week to try Sly Fox... the shortage is ridiculous. People need to stop drinking so much beer!

A couple of years ago i would've said Murrays, when things like Best Extra Porter, Wild Thing and the AA series (1-5) were really impressive. Since then, Wild Thing has been disappointing, AA7 was a drainpour and Seasons in the Abyss didn't grab me. Also very hard to find their range in Sydney now for reasons unknown.

I say Riverside. 44 is probably the best draught beer i've had from an Australian brewery in the last 12 months. 77 is tasting better with each batch. 88 is very solid, 55 is a good session beer, while there's 69 and 33 as introductory beers. Interesting mix of one-offs. Pricing is good across the board.

Nail is ok, but the pricing for Clout is obscene. Regular Stout is good.

Not that fussed on Feral, Hop Hog's a good Pale Ale, but Boris was disappointing. Not really digging Golden Ace. Sly Fox has a weird sulphur smell that was offputting, but drank a bit better.

Haven't drunk much Bridge Road in the past 8 months, so can't comment. Likewise Mountain Goat. Cheeky Monkey had some ok beers, but i wouldn't say they are the best in the country.

Mostly in agreement with MrKennedy, although it's worth noting that having such ready access to fresh Riverside product means there's definitely local bias at play.

Feral is pretty close to the top. Watermelon Warhead, Fantapants, BFH and Hop Hog are all great.

Bridge Road has to be it for me. I love the shit out of India Saison when its fresh, am a big fan of Dark Harvest and reckon Hop Harvest is the best Aussie wet hop beer around. Also highly regard B2 Bomber (although was disappointed by this years), Chevalier Saison and think their base range is very serviceable.

Plenty of other promising breweries with a bunch of hits, but also equally as many misses.

    Feral and cheeky monkey,
    I like the bottled Boris,
    still drinking it
I think Cheeky monkey is the most no nonsense brewery around, despite it horrendous "nonsense"

It's a reference of sorts to "Last Drop", as in your last beer before you die. It makes more sense when Jan explains it...

A few years ago I would have named WA breweries, but living in Vic makes it difficult to get WA beer as fresh as you remember. Lately Ive been really digging Mornington and Boatrocker. Mornington have nailed malty styles like brown, porter, imperial stout, scottish ale as well as IPA, pale ale and plenty more. Solid core lineup (tho I don't like the wit) and consistently good seasonals. Boatrocker have been so damn busy since building their own brewery. Their core range are tasting better than ever - always fresh, bright and hoppy, and they're super busy brewing cballenging styles like berliner weisse, flanders red ale, belgian summer stout, whisky barrel aged imperial stout, belgian strong dark ale, hommelbier to name a few and doing them well!

    *Edit: Forgot the "why".

I visited Mornington a month or so back, and was really impressed. The Vienna lager was out of the this world good.
