I backpack about 3 times a month and I always bring along at least a can of something. Cans are ideal for obvious reasons, along with being high in ABV so I can pack in less weight and still feel it.

Recently on different trips I've brought along Upslope's Belgian Style Pale Ale, Upslope's Brown Ale, Deviant Dale's, Old Chub, Torpedo, and Avery's IPA.

Old Chub is my favorite back-country-brew so far. It's delicious, high in alcohol, and fills me up after a long day of hiking. It's like a meal in a can! What else should I try?

Agreed on Old Chub. I also like to pack in Torpedo, SN Pale Ale, Ten Fidy, or Caldera IPA. I usually throw 4 cans in my dogs pack, and maybe a couple in my pack if the trip if fairly easy.

I'm actually leaving this afternoon for a trip into the Trinity Alps, cheers!

Very nice, jealous! I'm heading up to the Indian Peaks in a few hours. Decided to go with Upslope Brown Ale this time around.

Bringing both Old Chub/Ten Fidy might just be an amazing combo up there, though...

Just looked up Indian Peaks, looks beautiful! Have a good time, I know it's hard to beat sipping a nice beer in the wilderness. Cheers!

Ten Fidy, Old Chub, Gordon, Modus Hoperandi are all great in the wilderness. Packed in some Sante Fe Imp Java Stout and Maui CoCoNut Porter that were nice as well.

Dales Pale Ale....prefer that to Deviants, personally.

Drinking my first Ryeteous Rye currently, would make for a nice backpacking brew indeed.

I love the Ska mixed 12 to death. You have something for pretty much any occasion or palate (ESB, Modus, True Blonde), and they're all good. I'd take 1-2 of each depending on how much weight you feel like bringing. Toss in a Ten Fidy or Santa Fe Java for a cooler night and you're set.

In all honesty, I agree with a flask of bourbon, less weight and more effective per oz.

Now for CAMPING, all of the above.

My top picks assuming you have a cold mtn. creek or river near by (or cooler w/ ice)
    • Avery White Rascal
    • Ska's ESB
    • Upslope Brown or Avery Ellie's Brown
    • Oskar Blues Old Chub
    • Steamworks Steam Engine Lager or Colorado Kolsch

I've only taken Ten Fidy. I always want the highest ABV per oz. so that usually puts me in Wild Turkey or absinthe territory. I've always loved beer as a celebration afterwards.

There's always a cold creek/snow patch near by!

I just can't drink bourbon/any other hard liquor. They honestly just taste like gasoline to me.

Looks like I need to try some more Ska, I've only tried their blonde which was delicious.

Only brought beer once, but the ones I enjoyed the most were by far homebrews. Had something to do with drinking something I made out in nature.
