Generally far prefer aged barleywines, but quite enjoyed Bigfoot fresh (though LOVE it with 2.5-3 years on it) and GD's Old Ruffian.

I understand your use of "ruby." A lot of American barleywines have like a cidery taste to them that is hard to describe, but ruby fits somehow.

Old Ruffian tastes good right away. Same with Bigfoot.

Flying Dog Horn Dog is really good fresh or aged. And usually pretty easy to come by.

Bigfoot all the way. Give me them hops. I can't stand aged Bigfoot

A great hoppy Quakerbridge. Never tried it aged but I have one sitting which I will compare in a couple years!

Sucaba for me. It's good when aged, but I prefer it fresh

Doggie Claws is incredible fresh. Age doesn't hurt it though.

You still have some on the shelves? It became pretty scarce around here fairly quickly. Really good barleywine.

I don't know if it's the best, but if you're not drinking Hog Heaven fresh, you're drinking it wrong.

I've had some 8 year old Bigfoot that is still insanely bitter. They must have been nuts when fresh.

while it's definitely good fresh, our finest regards w/ 2 years on it is really special in my opinion.
