Hey everybody. Seven Days is in the midst of their annual Daysies awards where readers get to vote for their favorite establishments and people. Did your favorite bartender make the list? Here's the list. I'm surprised that no one from BlackBack or the FarmHouse made the finals. http://bit.ly/14CpEvt - Joe
I have to nominate Kenny from the old Alchemist brewpub, even though he's now 'retired' and working at the production brewery. edit: Ric at Blackback for active bartenders.
Is Ric the owner? Yankees cap at all times? If so, he's a great guy but I've never been there when he's bartending. The Laurens are both friendly and knowledgable. There's a great bartender over at The Rez, but I forget his name. We talked about Great Lakes because I think he's from Ohio. He also works at Stowe during winter. - Joe
That's Slim. He's solid. I've worked with him at Stowe for a couple seasons and see him often at the Rez. When he went to Ohio in the winter he brought me back some killer beers. Kate from the Pig is on the list as well, I think.
Kenny of course would be #1; everyone knows Kenny even if they'd only been to the Alchemist pub once, and Ric is always good for a laugh but I also like Jenny at BlackBack (who is Kenny's wife). Dana from Bobcat is another good one (I'm assuming it is the girl that is almost always there, I don't remember her name off hand but Dana sounds right). Reminds me I don't go to Bobcat nearly enough. Jason at Crop would be my #1. He works evenings at the bar (not the pub side). That is a guy that knows how to bartend. Crop is also putting out some very good beer.
Thanks. It was Slim. How does it work getting a winter gig at Stowe? I'll be heading to grad school and was considering trying to get a gig up there during the winter break. Work and ride for as long as I can. Kate was my choice for the Daysies. It's ashame there isn't a singing-bartender category as well. She'd win my vote for that, too. - Joe
They'll start taking applications through their website in the fall. Tons of jobs, really easy to get one. Kate is my pick for the daisies as well.
Ah yes, Torry rings a bell. She always seems to be bartending when I go there. Although I don't go much being it is a hr and 1/2 drive each way, but worth it.
The bartenders at ProPig really know how to make some drinks!! True mixologists. I only get beer but the wife loves the cocktails.
I'm a big fan of your name. It hurt me to pun it. I have Better Off Dead on DVD and saw the Lanemeyer reunion show at a tiny cafe in NJ years ago. Homebrew name ideas: LaneRyer, LaneMyPAer, etc. It's past 3 in Jersey and I need to come to terms with no more Abner. Next: Edward or Heady? - Joe
Cool.. glad you get the reference. I'll have to say Heady.. I've never had it but I'm sure it's nothing less than spectacular... -Cheers
The skinny dude with a gingery red beard at Farmhouse is my favorite. Had a great convo with him about beer trades.
This is very true. My wife and I were engaged in vt the day after our first trip to the alchemist brewpub and Kenny was bar tending that evening. 2 years later we returned for our 1 year wedding anniversary and he somehow recalled who we were from the first trip. Super friendly dude and very fun to talk beer with. After having food and beers at the alchemist, heading to black back and coming back to the alchemist for a night cap (on a Sunday night no less!) he allowed us to stay and drink while he cleaned up and prepped for the next day. Also let us try some stuff not officially on tap. Sadly, two weeks later the brewpub was flooded out but I appreciate our time we had there
