The Thirsty Monk is no where near the best bar in NC in my opinion.

My friend who got me into craft who used to live in DC and now lives in Hoboken(so he's been to plenty of good beer bars such as Churchkey in DC and the various ones in NYC) has family in Richmond and says it is great, so I'm guessing it probably is.

Disagree, The Shepard and The Knucklehead is far from the best beer bar in NJ. The Cloverleaf is superior and run by nicer folks. For quality, price and selection I would also have to nominate the Asbury Park Festhall (and I same sure it's Hoboken cousin).

For Illinois, I'd go with Hopleaf over their choice of Local Option

For Michigan, has to be Ashley's in Ann Arbor (though to be fair I haven't been to the TC place they picked)

Tremont Taphouse is a cool place, but I prefer Lizardville or Buckeye Beer Engine when I'm looking for a beer bar

Farmhouse can't touch Blackback, Worthy, Kingdom Taproom, Doc Ponds, Mule, etc. The parlor in the basement is cool and all, but I've never had a bartender take much of an interest, and good bartenders who want to talk about beer is a major reason I go to beer bars in the first place.

For NY, the Blind Tiger is a great spot. But the list says it's in SoHo, which it ain't; it's in the West Village. Makes me wonder how many of these places the writer actually visited.

Taking your variables into consideration I would agree, However that still leaves Brouwers Cafe to which I still hold a much higher degree in terms of service, atmosphere and selection.

Asbury Park Festhall? HELL no. I went there for about 20 seconds at 10 PM on a Sat. night. There was a wait for tables, there was a band playing so it was super loud, and I'd have to push through like 50 people to reach the bar. Any place that gets that crowded will never be on my "best bar" list. I'm sure it's nice on weekdays and if you're in the mood for something German. I hope I get the chance to visit for real some day.

What they have for Maryland is dead on. Max's Taphouse is an institution here. They probably should have mentioned the insane amount of Belgium beers they carry. Great stuff

can't speak for other states but In CO you have to go with Falling rock downtown. The mini-fests, rare offerings, and history going back dozens of years makes this an absolute classic. Plus a ton of taps and bottle offerings help too.

Agree with the selection for Arizona. Runner ups would be Brass Tap and Papago.

For the most part they hit it right on when it comes to the Blind tiger ale house in nyc... They have an outstanding craft list not to mention a very under estimated bottle selection....
And honorable mention is the black sheep aLe house on Long Island....

Scans quickly to make sure his favorite spots aren't listed. Closes tab.

I can't argue too much when the bar I work at is among those listed (The Anchor, Wichita). I've been to 9 of the other bars listed, and all are solid. That said, choosing one best bar from each state is a pretty silly task and there are many more excellent bars that easily could have been on this list.

I think I probably agree with you, but I love them both so it's hard to say definitively.

I actually would take Meadhall in MA over Lord Hobo any day of the week and thrice on Sunday. Possibly also Deep Ellum. Probably also Sunset Grill & Tap.

Great beer selection and $7 liters of Kane Head High (that is an honest +32 oz pour for those from Rio Linda) during happy hour. You cannot use the Yogi Berra Line "nobody goes there anymore- it is to crowded." I have been to Germany and know how the real deal works and this place is fine. They gave a great selection of American craft beers and a great selection of German beers. Cannot beat that.
