I'll be in Springfield (Springfield College area) Saturday night with some friends and am wondering what would be the best places for a BA to grab a couple beers.

Plan B is decent, the Fort if you like German stuff. Max Burger in Longmeadow has a good selection. Lattitudes in West Springfield has a decent selection. Check beer menus too a few of them keep pretty up to date.

I don't know too much up near Springfield College. Maybe Bentley's in East Longmeadow. Paddy's near WNEC has a good selection.

Go to Smiths! It's downtown on Worthington, so maybe 7-10 minutes. Great taplist, great bottle selection, and it's actually a pool hall. Bonus: you can order food from Theodore's BBQ downstairs and they deliver it up.

Otherwise... Not much. All the SC kids go to Paddy's, all the WNEC kids go to Sophia's, which are in plazas on opposite sides of the street from one another, traveling away from downtown.

Thanks for the replies. We'll be in town for a basketball game at SC. The closer to the college, the better. The guys I'll be with are not very much into craft beer so it'll be tough to convince them to travel very far from the school.

Paddy's is closer, but trust me and go to Smiths. It's not signicantly farther and it won't be a shitshow of everyone coming back from break. And again, much better food and beer options.

I 2nd Smith's, both food and beer are top notch. If you go there webpage they keep the tap list pretty up to date.

I'd love to encourage going downtown. I'm a Springfield College grad. It can be a pain in the ass to find parking and/or a place to feel like your 100% safe from being violently assaulted.

I'd opt for Sophia's or (I gues its now called) Paddy's. I feel like I've been able to grab a good bite to eat and a good craft beer at Sophia's. And it's two miles from campus, the opposite way of downtown. Maybe I've gotten soft since graduating, but I don't hear much positive coming from downtown, which makes me really sad, to be honest. I love that city.

As others have said - Smith's is the best for beer selection and food is pretty good. Paddy's has drastically improved over the years (they recently had bourbon county and backwoods bastard on tap - maybe they still do). My favorite options food-wise are Big Mamou (Cajun) and the Fort (German). Big Mamou is BYOB, which I'm a HUGE fan of as it's a lot cheaper and I tend to have way better beer than I can find on tap. The fort was my favorite, but it just changed (new ownership) and I've heard it has gone pretty far downhill.

Thanks for the info. We ended up going to Paddy's and we all thought it was actually a pretty great place. We went around 5 or 6 and it was virtually empty. The bartender was pleasant and the taplist was strong. BCBS, Backwoods, Be Hoppy, Ten Fiddy to name a few of the highlights.

WHAT! They had Backwoods at Paddy's?? Wow. They're usually more of an IPA, pale ale/seasonal kind of place, with options like Wormtown, Baxter, etc, but I haven't been in a year or two. Wow.

Ya man, check them out on beermenus. They keep their list updated and, as I said, they've really climbed to new levels in the past year.
