    Hi all,

I'm coming in to Tampa this Monday for a work conference at the Tampa Bay Convention Center. I've already targeted CCB, Pegs, Cycle and Rapp for good brew pubs to hit (I'm gonna take a day to myself to go beer touring), but can someone recommend the best beer bars downtown that I could drag some coworkers to during the week without it being too out of the way? What are the best beer bars in the city?

    Thanks in advance!

Datz is a place to put on your list.

The Dirty Shame always surprises me. Last time I was there they had KBS.

Datz is a must stop. Idk if I would consider it a beer bar though. They have a great selection but I would consider it more of a restaurant. Tampa Bay Brewing Company is another really great place that isn't too far out of the way. They have really solid beers and food. If they have their root beer on tap you have to get it.

Still don't understand the fascination with Datz. Food's good but so is Pane Rustica, Side Bern's, La Terasita, Ella's, and any number of other restaurants. Send him to a great beer bar that has food.

Thanks all for the tips so far, they all look interesting. Any tips on a good dinner nearby downtown where I can also get my Jai Alai fix on?

Dunderbaks isn't even CLOSE to downtown.

I agree. Datz is good food but the parking problem alone makes me never go and their beer selection is good enough but it's nothing outstanding.

There is a place called Taps in downtown Tampa on Ashley Dr.

    Never ate there though.

If I were you I'd just go to Ybor and find somewhere to eat/drink. Pretty much any place there will have Jai Alai. It really depends on how much you're willing to spend when it comes to food.

When I lived in the area I spent most of my time in St. Pete ( which I highly recommend over downtown Tampa), and my favorite place to go was The Ale and the Witch. About 30 taps, all were american craft brews, fair amount of local/semi-local offerings, great laid back vibe, no real food in house but plenty of places that delivered/were in walking distance. I miss that place.

I also am a big fan of Tampa Bay Brewing Company. Food is fantastic, and beers hold their own. I love their barleywine.

    Enjoy your trip!

Tap list is pretty good, but there are some gems on that bottle list. Just curious, what are they charing for some of those. Huge mark up on things like Cantillons? And the Sam Adams Utopias, nice! Im assuming they sell that by the pour and not the bottle? I moved out of state a couple years ago but make it back to the Sarasota area a few times a year, and I sure as hell would drive up to Tampa for a couple Cantillons and a pour of Utopias.

Thanks all. Good tip on Taps, that was just few blocks from my hotel and they had a nice selection (ah, jai alai on draft, that hit the spot), is pretty nice inside and decent sandwiches.

Come Thursday I want to do CCB, Peg's and maybe one or two others before I leave town. Is public transportation an option round here or am I gonna ring up a killer taxi bill?

If your going from CCB to Peg's then Rapp is a must stop. You could go on the way to, or on the way back, from Peg's. If your not planning on eating at Peg's I would just go to Cycle though. The brewery will have more on tap than Peg's.

If you don't have a car getting to Pegs (cycle), Rapp, etc from CCB or downton Tampa will be a good hit on the wallet if your taking a taxi.

Not much in the way of public transport. It's Florida! A taxi from CCB to Peg's, Cycle...probably $65-$75 round trip.

Utopia is for the whole bottle. Cantillon and 3 Fontinien are pretty reasonable.
As I said...without equal, the best beer bar in the area. One of the best in the South. Very under rated.

If you are willing to travel that far, the Cigar City Brewpub on North Dale Mabry has excellent food and some beers that you won't find anywhere else.

Look into the Beer Bus. Sometimes they will go from CCB to various St. Pete breweries and you get to drink on the way too.

New World is in Ybor, just down the street from Tampa Bay Brewing Co. (west of TBBC). Great food in Ybor (especially Cuban) and easily walked. Near downtown, public transport, including the light rail from the Ice Palace and Channelside area, which has some good restaurants, as well.

    Someone there likes inBev.
Pretty funny they have more beer from them than the brewery down the street.

Datz just had Goose Island Proprietors, Cherry, Bramble and all 3 2013 variants on draft Wednesday...it was fantastic!
