What I'm saying is that the article's "average price for a pint" includes beers like Budweiser. it's not just the average price for a Perennial and Fremont beer. According to the authors, they are using 82% of all beer in the US in their calculation. Perennial and Fremont beers will clearly be above the average price.

Well, a couple years ago, a list came out of the cities with the least amount amount of "cheap beer on tap", and my city topped the list. I'll try to find it when I'm on a machine.

I am quite the homer when it comes to CO; but I will say that San Diego deserves all the accolades it gets. Recently visited and it is fantastic; in volume, variety, history, and quality.

I've also been to San Francisco and while I think there are some great breweries there, it's a very densely populated area and I wouldn't call it a beer mecca. It's adjacent to wine country and that have a huge role in the culture.

Price per pint IMO should not even be a consideration. Some of the best craft beer I have had has also been some of the most expensive. Not saying it has to be expensive to be good, but...

Do you think you would agree with their metric or opinion on what "good" was?

It doesn't have 175 breweries in San Diego proper. The 175 number includes the greater metro area which I think this "study" didn't include.

Putting Colorado Springs (where I live) ahead of Boulder, or Loveland... yeah, no way.

Another day, another beer list from a questionable source. Some decent choices and some laughable ones as usual.
IDGAF what kind of criteria you're using, putting Cinci over Portland is ridiculous.

The list appears to be geared towards measurements that wouldn't be of much use to us on a site with interests like ours. All of the measures are very utilitarian: number of breweries, number of people, number of different beers made, and price.

The site appears to concern itself with personal finance management and things along those lines given the headings at the top and "Tips" offered at the end of the list:
    • As you run up a tab, be smart about your paycheck. Use our comprehensive paycheck calculator to get a picture of exactly what your take-home pay will be.
    • Whether or not you have a glass-half-full outlook on life, be sure to budget.
    • If staring at your brokerage statements makes you feel like you’re wearing beer goggles, consider professional financial advice
It's really not worth debating their list in terms of things beer nerds would care about. Though it may have some marginal utility for the cheapskates amongst us who might be looking to move :sunglasses:

ETA: I didn't meant to suggest this wasn't worth posting. Just that it should probably be judged on its own terms, for better or for worse.

So, you would argue that Portland does have a greater variety of cheap beer per capita than does Cincinnati?

My hometown of Louisville just made it at 50. I haven't been there since 2014, but a friend there tells me quite a few breweries have opened. For my current state (Florida) Tampa made number 37. There are a lot of breweries in Tampa including, of course, Cigar City Brewing Co.

They listed Vista 2nd. California get screwed because most major metro areas have multiple cities. I grew up in Calabasas, moved to Burbank, then Malibu. Always in LA metro area, yet never in LA city.

Price of a pint and relative lack of beers in NEIPA land is going to pretty much exclude everyone in New England except for Portland, ME which overcomes it with sheer breweries per capita!

That said, why is number of beers one of the index values? So if someone produces mediocre beer across a wide variety of styles they get credit over a brewery making a handful of world-class beers. Ummmm ok...

How’s Philly 49? It’s a major hub for most breweries, plus the local stuff.

Chicago? Please, hard to believe it could get much better.

Philly so far down is interesting.

More interesting is where can I get a pint for $5 here?

Maybe an AAL or a happy hour deal but most "craft" beers are $7 a pint and many more are $7+ for 10-12oz pours.

I can get Elder almost any day for $8 a pint....So where is that $2 pint to get to the average?

    Enjoy

Dang, I hate, with a fiery, burning, passion this phrase. WTF does world class mean? No one has ever explained it to me.
