Best Beer Flavored Beer

To me beer flavor is a lager. That's what I grew up on. I drink all syles now but "beer" is lager.
Two locals lagers I enjoy:
Indeed Dandy
Surly Hell

PBR...union made, no frills, just beer beer. But I'm also happy to know that Red Tail is union made. The Red Tail was the first shift beer I was given by the bossman after work. I still haven't tasted a better beer, so sentimental and good.

 

Long Trail Ale is my reset beer.

 

I would not call it the "best" or my favorite per se but I recently had a Smuttynose Really Old Brown Dog that was aging for about 6 months.

As I was drinking it, I was thinking that this was just a really, really solid and well crafted beer. Absolutely NO bells or whistles - just plain old malty goodness.

 

I like beer flavored beer and also different flavored beer as well, both are good IMO

My favourite beer flavoured beer over the last few weeks at least was Coniston Bluebird at the brewpub


Incidentally my least favourite beer flavoured beer over the same period was a bottle of theirs too, the Coniston XB bitter. It was rubbish.

Czech pilsner
Kolsch
California Common/Steam
Porter

 

I'll save you the trouble. It'll taste like a bourbon, mango, and coconut flavored beer... and with a little future flavor thrown in for extra consumer desire. People will say that they struggled to pick up any future in the taste.

 

To me, to most 'beer' tasting beer, is Bass Ale. If you want a bit more hops, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Want to go American lager, go for Yuengling.

Was the XB brewed elsewhere under contract? I believe the standard bottled Bluebird is. I too did not like the bottled XB, but I came around to it when I had it from a keg (both in the States). I have no idea if the same contract brewer is responsible for bottles and kegs for export.

 

I don't know, but their own brewery is tiny so I assume it is or if it is brewed there it will be taken by tank to somewhere else to get bottled. I got a load of diacetyl from it, none in the cask bluebird or their other cask and two other bottled beers of theirs I tried


This is their brewery. Someone was inside the copper shovelling out the used hops when I visited. Smelled lovely
