So looks like most of this weekend I'll be stuck indoors due to the blizzard that is hitting New York. What is your favorite beer to sip on while snowy hell is wrecking havoc outside?

Blizzard... Snow... I'm unfamiliar with such terms in AZ. However, cold days warrant big, warming beers. Something barrel aged preferably. Clean out the cellar? Maybe last years Abyss.

A nice coffee stout sounds about right - Dieu Du Ciel Péché Mortel sounds perfect.

Long weekend sipping beer to combat stupid cold and insane amounts of snow?

    Parabola
    Big Bad Baptist
    Black Chocolate Stout
    Founders Imperial Stout

Tried my first Big Bad Baptist recently. My new favorite coffee stout. Insanely good; I actually prefer it to BCBCS! I second your recommendation!

I feel like Baptist is one those hidden gems - well, as much as a wonderful coffee imperial stout can remain hidden. If you like Baptist, try to track down Brooklyn's Infused. It's a coffee-infused porter - though I'd argue it's actually a stout - with a similar flavor profile and amazingly lush mouthfeel. Sampled it at a tasting last month and fell complete in love with it.

One of these days I hope to understand craft beers - never heard of any of those. Newb right here.

Anyways, for the storm a simple guy like myself would get some Sam Adams, any flavor really.

Comes with time. I recommend finding a local shop that gets some fresh craft options in weekly and start trying new beers. If you are unsure about what you like, look up the general style description on Beer Advocate (i.e. porter, IPA, IIPA, Quad, etc.), and then look at the numerous reviews archived about the beer and its taste on this site. If it sounds, good try it and take notes! Welcome to BA!

I cannot WAIT for this snow, i have too many to choose from that have been waiting in my fridge for a day like this. Parabola, Victory at Sea, and BCBS are all on deck.

Wish i had some All Green Everything on hand.

Moral of the story is anything with a lot of booze in it.

My advice: since you're going to be snowed in and really can't do anything, do yourself a favor and veg out completely. Which means drinking anything in a 750 ml or 22 oz. bomber. It'll cost more but with less trips to the fridge, you'll save the energy you'll need to dig yourself out when the snow stops.

Not sure about the upcoming East coast snow, but when we get snow here in Chicago I prefer to grab Pipeworks Lizard King or something similar. At this point it's quickly becoming a shelf beer, $10 for a 16 oz 4-pack and it tastes like summer.

Keeping a nice buzz will make it easier to forget you've got 2 feet of snow to shovel when you wake up.

Totally agree on BBB. Tried it for the first time a few months ago and couldn't believe it's not more hyped.

I'm also hunkering down in DC for the storm as well and have my beer fridge stocked.

    - Big Bad Baptist
    - Jubel 2015
    - Founder's Imperial Stout
    - Ten Fidy
    - SN Beer Camp
    - BP Victory at Sea
    - Hardywood Sidamo Coffee Stout

Stocked up on Celebration and Death by Coconut. I also picked up a nice mix and match 6 pack of new ipa's local to here. I wish I had some Founders Breakfast stout.

Well, I know a thing or two about blizzard conditions. And my advice, is, variety will help keep cabin fever at bay. Enjoy!

I like anything over 9% for kicking back and watching the snow fall while the fireplace keeps us cozy, but if I have to shovel, I go for something very sessionable (because I estimate how many beers each and every task around the house will take. Shoveling is at least a 4 beer job  ).

On cold, snowy days, I'll put a big, coffee stout bomber on my back porch while I'm cooking breakfast and return for it in a couple hours for a nice warm, snow day.

I purpously bought plenty of Bigfoot and various coffee stouts for this blizzard. Let's do this!
