I was reading this article on the beer mile: http://yahoo.thepostgame.com/blog/training-day/201410/untold-history-beer-mile

The short version for those of you that don't know is chug a beer, run a lap on a track. 4 beers, 4 laps. The beer has to be at least 5% alcohol.

So my question to all the folks here is what would you drink if you had to chug several beers in a short amount of time? Forget the running aspect and just look at it purely from a beer standpoint.

Suck it up and go for the barleywine. Then sit back and watch the show.

Something you like would be a good start.

The only 5% beer that I can think of that doesn't have a lot of hops or malt, and isn't a BMC product, is COOP Horny Toad. If I've got to run a mile I might as well drink something local and I'm sure as hell not going to throw down anything heavier than a Blonde Ale, Pale Ale or Witbier.

As a barleywine fiend, I'd have to go with:

Lap 1: 12 ounces Bourbon Abominable
Lap 2: 12 ounces Mother of All Storms
Lap 3: 12 ounces A Deal With The Devil
Lap 4: 12 ounces King Henry

12 ounce pours to give you a shot in hell. This could be modified though to incorporate some American barleywines.

Sixpoint Sensi Harvest would be a perfect beer. It's only 4.7% abv, but whatever, I'm a rebel like that.

Drink something local so your vomit doesn't throw the terroir out of balance.

I second this, I turned 59 last Monday and while I should keep myself in better shape there is no way I'm running a mile. As for the last time I chugged a beer... :flushed:

I don't think the beer would matter that much for me, as Id be either hurling it up or just walking the mile. I'm a heavy smoker and don't like to run.

I am thinking of trying it with Ten Fidy tonight. Looking at doing a 8 minute mile. That motor oil of a beer will feel great coming back up.
