Just like college football. IOWA vs. NEBRASKA

 

I know of only one decent brewery in Iowa. I don't know any in Nebby, but I'm sure some exist.

There's a new one in Iowa City called BackPocket, which is okay, but doesn't hold a candle to any california or vermont breweries I know of.

 

I go to San Diego where my in-laws live about twice a year. You guys all know the big players in that area, but the number of terrific locally-focused microbreweries is astonishing. I tried a few random ones all within a small area -- Pacific, Two Kids, and Rough Draft -- all pretty small, and all very good. These little breweries are everywhere in that area.

Honestly I'd take the greater San Diego area over all of Vermont.

 

With HF, Alchemist, and Lawson's alone, I really feel that VT is doing a better job as far as IPA and DIPA excellence. In all of CA, I would only put Alpine, Societe, and Cellarmaker on the same tier.

For beer in general? CA...

 

Yeah, plus they have Detoilet.

Not sure about the best DIPA, I suspect you;d have to trudge though maybe 1500 session beers before finding a few to judge

 

I love Lost Coast (Eureka). How come they get so little attention? I think the redwoods must interfere with reception somehow.

 

I have a really tall Walker Hound. He's very intelligent and knows that pissing up highest on the tree makes him king of earth. Sometimes I try to talk to him, but I'm a mere human that don't know dog. I marvel when I watch him, as I drink beers from lots of places, not caring about the beer so much as learning from my hound.
