I'm from New Jersey; we have a few decent breweries, but my vote goes to Vermont and Colorado.

"Best beer state" is highly subjective. What criteria do you use? Highest overall quality of craft-brewed beer? Number of craft breweries per capita? Laws that favor breweries? Reputation of the state?

California definitely! There are so many good breweries here. California also has the best IPA's too.

    Who "F"ing cares?

My favorite beer is in the fridge right now. It's distributed where I live so don't give a " ".

California, we have Sierra Nevada, Firestone Walker, Russian River, North Coast, Ballast Point, Green Flash, Alpine, Saint Archer, Modern Times, Anderson Valley, Stone, Kern River, El Segundo, Smog City, The Bruery, Noble Ale Works, Bootleggers, Hangar 24, Almanac, Anchor, almost forgot Pizza Port, The Lost Abbey, Port, AleSmith, Bear Republic and I am pretty sure I am missing a few others, oh yeah, there's the Anheuser Busch brewery in Van Nuys and then there is that one guy that's likes to sue other brewers, like Sierra Nevada, its name is . . . oh yeah, Lagunitas.

Exactly. Many people will never get to try all the beer available to people in California, Oregon, Vermont, Colorado, or wherever gets the most votes for best.
If I never get to drink another beer from anywhere but Michigan, I will still get to enjoy a great deal of excellent beer for the rest of my life.

I'm in Oregon so I'd say that but it's a close call with California and Colorado

Vermont. I like it here but this hasn't been my favorite place I've lived but the beer has made these winters MUCH more doable. I'd much rather be living back in Colorado, where I moved from similar activities, better weather, and great beer as well.

Vermont > California. The nice thing about Vermont is that the breweries are relatively close together and you can enjoy the beers with terrific food. California has a greater number of terrific breweries, however they might as well be in different states.
