For that price I'd go with the Brooklyn Brew Shop kit instead. You get less volume but you get better beer and learn more in the process. Plus you can keep the 1 gallon jug later for little experiments (which is what I do).

If I was starting again however, I'd just skip the 1 gallon kits and head straight to 5 gallons.

Well, here's what I've bought beer related from Amazon. I don't know if it qualifies as 'best' by any means.
Libbey Craft Brew Sampler Clear Beer Glass Set, 6-Piece
British Style Tulip Pint Glass with Etched Seal
The World Atlas of Beer: The Essential Guide to the Beers of the World
1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die (1001 (Universe))
Luigi Bormioli Social Ave Beer Assorted Essentiales - (never used any of these... :( )
Beer Saver Reusable Silicone Bottle Caps - Set of 6
Beyond the Pale: The Story of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
Libbey Craft Brews 15.25-Ounce Clear Classic Pilsner Glass Set, 4-Piece (chipped the one that came in the first set, so. The box came with only 3 glasses instead of 4, and I gave the odd one to a friend. I've 2. Buyer beware.)
