So I started seriously drinking craft in 2011. Two years ago I didn't think that I'd want to save some of those beers for later enjoyment. Now that 2013 is winding down, which beers would you hang onto and create a vertical of moving forward? This Backwoods Bastard I'm sipping certainly sounds like a good option...

Sierra Nevada Bigfoot or Narwhal, Dechutes the Abyss, or Hair of the Dog Adam would be my choices to do a vertical of.

It's always good to use a beer that you know you'll be able to get year after year. Nothing worse than having a vertical that you have to donate a kidney for to fill in a missing year. I think Brooklyn BCS would be excellent given your location.

I thought that at one point, but I wouldn't recommend it now. This is one of my favorite beers, drink it fresh.

Personally I'm doing a vertical of the FW anniversary beers. Only have XV and XVI for now, with XVII to join them soon I hope. Also going to start a vertical of BCBS.

@duketheredeemer has a 17 year vertical of bigfoot I hear.

BCS is tough. I just fired into an 07 a few months ago and it was undrinkable on a good day.

120 to a certain extent. I doubt I'd go longer than 5 years on those.

3 Philosophers holds up remarkably well. BCBS is nice, but tends to tail off after 6-7 yrs. Boulevard Rye-on-Rye. Deschutes Black Butte.

I wouldn't put a collar on it but it might cellar well  I personally like this one on the greener side but to each his own.

This is good advice. And you'll probably end up paying less while being able to get more beer, I might add.

In that vein, I would recommend:

    North Coast Old Stock Ale
    Goose Island Sofie
Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van de Kaizer Blue
J.W. Lees Harvest Ale (you might have to search for this a bit for specific years)
    St. Bernardus ABT 12

With the caveat that virtually nobody enjoys J.W. Lees with anything less than five years on it and technically it is impossible to find a fresh bottle, but whatever.
