For me, Uinta Dubhe.. by a mile. Have had it on tap next to Stone Self-Righteous, and it makes Self-Righteous look like child's play.

Hoppin Frog Hop Heathen and obviously Wookey Jack. Dont sleep on FInch's Sobek and Set. Not as heavy as the first two, but damn similar flavor.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack, Southern Tier Iniquity and Uinta Dubhe are my top three in pretty much any order.

My apologies in advance for in no way addressing the OP's original question. But this is thread has kind of turned in to black ale snuggle fest so I've got to give a shout out here...

Hands down the best black ale that I've ever had was Cigar City's Humidor Imperial Black Ale. I would love to see that one released again, particularly in four packs.

Karben4 Silk Scorpion is tops in my book. Holy hell do the citra hops play well with the roasted malts.

You beat me to it. I don't usually like black IPAs as the roasted flavors compete with the hoppy flavors. But Hop Heathen was sweet and juicy.

Haven't had a ton, but El Jefe from the Alchemist was excellent.

Recently had Green Flash Hop Odyssey on tap which was fantastic. Also drank the Sierra Nevada Blindfold Black IPA from the recent 4-Way IPA release which is great. My favorite in 2013 was the SN Devastation Ale Wet Hop Black IPA!

stone ssr, uinta dubhe and green flash black ipa.

I propose the new acronym is blipa because bipa could be Belgian or black ipa
