Shorts Goodnight Bodacious is without question the best ive ever had but not easy to come by. Sublimely Self Righteous is probably the best common one ive had.

Now that we get to talking about it I'm marching my ass in to my local store tomorrow, where I saw a case of that sitting there earlier today and buying it.

A smoked lager suggestion in a black ipa/ cascadian dark ale/ American black ale suggestion post?

I may be off base but that doesn't seem to make any sense whatsoever.

Another vote for Armored Fist by Boneyard. Beyond Self Righteous, Wookey, and, yes, even the Hill Farmstead brews IMHO.

Not the "best" - but superlatives are silly - but I recently had El Cucuy by Marshall out of Oklahoma. Thought it was quite a fine example.

One that wasn't mentioned, but I feel is quite good.

Back in Black by 21st Amendment Brewery.

    And it's in cans.

Sierra Nevada's Devastation blew everyone out of the water IMO ie. wookie jack.

I found that Beerd's Imperial Anomaly was fantastic. had the nose of a imperial stout and mouth feel and finish of a dank ipa. would love to give that one to someone literally blindfolded to see what they think.

2, not mentioned, I like are the Blue Point Toxic Sludge and Heavy Seas Black Cannon. It's only been mentioned twice but 21st Amendment's Back in Black is kinda a go-to for me. 21st Amendment seems like it gets slept on a lot on this board.

Uinta Dubhe is my favorite, though. Great taste, nice punch. Win-win. Affordable, too. I have a bomber of Green Flash Black IPA I'm trying tonight, so maybe my answer changes later.

Without a doubt Wookey Jack is king of the style
but 21st Amend Back in Black is solid also.
Not easily available and I don't even know if it is still brewed but 3F In The Name Of Suffering was outstanding
Wish I could have tried Founder Artist Inspired Black IPA

Knee Deep Midnight Hoppyness is high up on my list, but I'm not sure how available it is elsewhere. And for me, honorable mention goes to Drake's 2013 Jolly Rodger, though it was only brewed once.
