Indy expat back for a bit - what am i missing? it seems my favorite honey holes on the southside pale in comparison to what they once were or have all but dried up (parti pak is a shell of its former self, it seems) anyway... where should i look for the best selection / hard(er) to find stuff, etc?
I remember Kahn's on Keystone being good, but it's been a very long time since I've been to Indy so I'm sure a lot has changed since then.
Feel like it’s tough to find a true honey hole on the south side without putting in some work to get to know the beer guy. Best bet is probably going to be big red cask strength. The other chains don’t seem to have designated any of the south side stores as a tier 1 type of store that gets good allocations. Maybe the payless “corporate” store up by southern plaza but I still can’t quite figure Payless out. Parti Pak just accumulates dusties but you can find some decent stuff from time to time. Moving out of the south side, Crown downtown seems pretty good, but my overall recommendation is Kahns up on Keystone. Probably as diverse of a beer selection as you’ll find around town and they don’t seem to hold much back. Join their K-Klub for the occasional exclusive beer release and annual bourbon lottery. While you’re there, swing by SoBro around the corner. Small place but sometimes will have stuff sit on the shelf a little longer. Prices are usually a little higher though. Then of course there’s the new Total Wine on the north side. I’m sure there are plenty of places I’m missing, but hope that helps.
