Carton Brewing! Great guys, great beer. I'll be at the brewery today if anybody wants to pop in and say hello. They're releasing their new Berliner done with mulberries.

IMO it's a dead heat between Kane and Carton.

I'd probably give the edge to Carton though.

Wow I must be out of the loop--those are two of the newer ones, no? Aside from this mulberry-infused Berliner, what beers from these two do you guys recommend?

They have 4 beers always on tap for tastings and for growler fills: Boat - session IPA, 077xx - DIPA, BDG - which is a hybrid brown ale kinda, and Carton of Milk - milk stout. I really enjoy all of them, especially Boat and 077xx. Great hop profiles. And then they release smaller runs of stuff like the Berliner and a rye beer not too long ago.

I have actually yet to have any of their beers but I hear Climax is pretty awesome.

High Point. Their Ramstein beers are right on target.

Haven't had a bad beer from either of them, but I'm partial to

Kane - Head High (IPA), Overhead (DIPA), Port Omna (Stout)
Carton - Boat (hoppy session ale w/kolsch yeast), 077XX(DIPA), BDG (Brown/Country Ale)

Kane hands down. Ive liked/loved everything from Kane especially some of their one offs like Molé Port Omna and Creamsicle Port Omna

The only beers from Carton I've cared for are Boat and Carton of Milk. BDG and 077XX do nothing for me.

I actually think River Horse is pretty bad. I think their brand is great, and I am close to them, but their beer is just uninspired.
Cartons beers are good. Kane's might be a notch better, but the Guys at Carton are the best, that is why I always choose their beers.
As far as flying fish, their exit series is mediocre.
High point makes a good Winter Wheat and that is about it.
Climax is just bad in my opinion.
To be honest, I would chose some New Jerseans Homebrews over all of them except maybe Kane and Carton.

Carton and Kane are doing some great things in my humble opinion... OP, you're friends showed up at Carton and I'm sure they'll agree about Carton.

Very impressed with the new guys, Carton and Kane.

Like Flying Fish Exit Series, their regular line not so much.

    Climax is solid.

Favorite NJ brewery is High Point/Ramstein, based on their draft only lagers and the Winter Wheat. However, my love for High Point is based on how world-class well they brew classic styles, like the best Octoberfest I've ever had, and a terrific pilsner. Greg is not creating a new style every week.

    Best NJ brewery all-time: Heavyweight.

I agree with most - Kane and Carton have really impressed me so far. I was just introduced to them along with Tuckahoe, Turtle Stone, and Cape May Brewing at the AC beer fest a couple of months ago. Wasn't too impressed from the samples I had form Turtle Stone and Cape May, but would def try them out again. I've enjoyed the 2 Tuckahoe brews I've had - the Marshallville Wit and the Brighton Coffee Stout (excellent), so looking forward to trying more of their stuff. I just wish Kane and Carton brews were available in South Jersey... Carton brews seem to be making their way down here - the 077XX DIPA was on tap at the Pour House. Def want to get a growler fill of Boat. I'm just happy that this state is final producing some more breweries.

I was curious on what you based your opinion of Climax? Unfortunately, they have a lot of old product in the state. I worked there for several months and always found their fresh beer to be solid. I have picked up beer since leaving and the beer had gone down south significantly. I can tell you that if you see a growler, you should pass because it's close to a year old at the youngest.
