Best By doesn't tell you schitt unless the bottle on date is almost invisible with ink that you have to use your magnifying glass to look for.

    Bottled on date. /Thread

Bottled on,,I can decide by style what's Appropriate. If it's a stout I'm less concerned about age as long as it's properly stored. IPAs and PAs I want to know how old they are right now.

Bottled on is my favorite, but there is some serious merit to both.

Bottled on, and is it just me or does Ballast Point have a real shitty printer. I was looking for some Sculpin to take to someone in Louisiana and had to hit 3 stores before I found the Cans that had a good printing on carton. While on this pursuit I found some that had been aging since 14030 in a bomber

I mean, I don't think people are as worried about fresh Irish Red or Captain Stout. Also Ex Hop is a special release only available at the brewery.

Bottled on is just plain better all around. It serves the same purpose without the consumer having to google how long the best by code is for a particular brewery. And then you have the problem with best buy codes where stores pull good beer off the shelves because its "expired" so you see stuff like six month codes on IPAs. Bottled on dates don't have this problem and anyone can educate themselves a bit to know what styles suffer from being old anyways.

Both is best. That being said bottling date is primary.

For year round available, bottled on is best. For seasonal releases and one offs, Batch number is just as good.

You really need to catch up on the newest techniques, old man  For the sake of propriety I won't explain further.

Bottled/canned on date should be mandatory. I'll decide when it's "best by".
