What are your thoughts on the best collaboration beers you've imbibed? These can be tough to judge because they're made in small batches, not widely distributed, and can vary based on when or how fresh they are when you drink them.

    Here's what I've liked:

Fermentation without Representation: DC Brau & Epic (consistently great every year)
Mile High IPA: Denver Beer Co & Pizza Port
Super IPA: Alpine & New Belgium

    Cheers!

Super IPA (Alpine & NB) definitely.

Collage (Deschutes & HOTD) was pretty good too.

A great thing about Super IPA was that it was basically a straight Alpine beer being brewed on a much larger scale. NB has dedicated a couple of the Lips series to doing this.

My personal favorite collaboration was Depth Charge...

My favorite in recent memory was Limoncello IPA by Grassroots Brewing and Mikkeller. It is also listed as being a collaboration between Hill Farmstead, Mikkeller, and Siren brewing (grassroots is a subsidiary of Hill Farmstead apparently).

The commercial description is "Brewed in Collaboration with Mikkeller for the Ratebeer European Summer Gathering. Made with lactose, oats, wheat, and pilsner malt. The beer underwent a 12 hour sour mash to add a little tartness. Hopped with Citra and Sorachi ace. Dry hopped with Sorachi Ace and Centennial along with 1kg of fresh lemon peel."

Had it on tap in Waterbury, VT. It was beyond Thunderdome

That beer is phenomenal. I knew it had to have been soured, because I was describing it to people as a sour IPA. This needs to happen more often. Such a unique beer, would love to see it emerge as like a sub-style or something because I want more of it.

I would add Double Dose and most of Stone's collaborations, especially Dayman.

Half Acre & Three Floyds: Anicca IPA is single hopped snake juice showcasing the Mosaic hop, a plant throwing off a cornucopia of fruit flavors. Bitter sweet and full of force, this IPA bends your brain into a tropical storm of writhing glory.

Stone, green flash, and pizza port highway 78 scotch ale... Or any of the Q.M series they put out with the old gaurdians... Also Westbrook and the charleston beer exchange old time beers. Rummy was the best out of that, with only 216 bottles produced

Heard some people say the rummy is pouring flat. You pop a bottle yet?

I'll pile on and say New Belgium/Alpine Super IPA as well...That bottle art drew me in, then the price made it even sweeter. Once I cracked it open it was a done deal. Great beer.

Would also give mention to New Belgium/Brewery Vivant's Escoffier.

Yeah I drank it tht month... No point in saving a bottle you could only get one of and don't know what it tastes like... It was a little flat, but I think that's how they intended that to be. Kind of like lost abbey does with their beer. My angels share though was carbonated as hell

I still have some grumpys... That might have been the best overall beer from that series, had a little bit of everything... So many different undertones and characteristics!!! Belgian dark strong ale, barrel aged in Apple brandy barrels, with three wild yeast strains added...

Yeah.. I hate I missed that release. I could have easily gotten a full allotment. Now I'm stuck without anything :slight_frown:
The Grumpy and Funky sounded best to me.
