@rozzom provided a lot of great spots already and as mentioned, using beermenus while you're here will allow you to find places with specific beers/breweries that you are looking to try. The only place I would also mention if you're trying to focus on NY local beers/breweries is Cardiff Giant. All 12 of their taps are devoted to NY state breweries and they also have NY state cider, wine and liquor available. If you're here when the weather is nice they also have a decent outdoor space in the back.

Good call. I really like that place. I actually have a bit of animosity towards it too haha. Wiley bros partner on it is the same one as Owl Farm (which is my local spot) - I feel like OF went from a 10 to a 9 when CG opened, because Steven is now spread across both

I've only been there a handful of times, but what I like about it is that they usually have some beers from NY breweries I don't see too often at most of the more popular places (Covenhoven, Gold Star, Owl Farm, etc.). It's also a good option if you're with non-beer people who still want to try something local/different.

You can't go wrong with any of the places already mentioned, we're pretty spoiled in Brooklyn tbh. I've only been living here for ~6 years and in that time Covenhoven, Gold Star, Cardiff, Other Half, Interboro, KCBC, Threes, Folksbier, and probably another dozen places have opened since then. Pretty crazy.

I would gladly trade OF for CG. I like CG but the tap selection is consistently worse than OF, MD, and BGH. In exchange, CG has better cocktails, wine, snacks, and outdoor space (so agree that it is better for non beer nerds). I totally appreciate the focus on NY brews, but OF / MD / BGH almost always have better selection of Grimm / OH / Hudson Valley / Suarez / Equilibrium. CG would be my local, but I end up walking to Mekelburg and Hops Hill nine out of ten times.

To OP, most of the best beer bars in BK (to me) don't serve proper meals: Gold Star (snacks / hot dog / sandwich), Mission Dolores + Owl Farm + Bar Great Harry (chips), Hops Hill (snacks / sandwiches), Torst (snacks / sandwiches), Spuyten Duyvil (snacks), The Well (don't think there is any food). And a lot of my favorite places to eat don't have the best beer selection (like Long Island Bar for the burger) or anything to drink (Lucali for pizza). Mekelburg is a good call but generally has sandwiches and baked potatoes (though the porchetta is pretty great).

I honestly think it is better just to separate out the eating and beer drinking experiences if you want a full meal. So go to the bar before or/and after the restaurant. Gold Star is very close to a terrific neighborhood restaurant called Olmsted. Mission Dolores is somewhat close to great spots in Gowanus like Freek's Mill and Claro. Lucali is great for pizza and by Bar Great Harry. Hops Hill is across the street from Emily, and, depending on how crowded the bar is, they will let you bring in take out pizza from there. The Well is sort of close to Roberta's for pizza. And Long Island Bar is not really close to any great beer bar but their burger is excellent. Other Half is close to Defonte's for Italian sandwiches, just had a Nicky Special and a roast beef with mozz and fried eggplant. Good snow day food.

Yeah I’d take OF over CG any day as well. Was just a) agreeing that CG is also a good spot, and b) saying that I think OF lost it’s edge when CG opened. But it’s still fantastic and I always list it in my top 3 / top 5 suggestions for beer places to go

Nowhere nails the food/beer combo I agree. I think the two places I list come the closest for places near me. Mekelburgs is a good shout too

Good calls. The burger at Mugs is the perfect lunch for a long day of drinking.

    Hi

Any recommendations near to the Barrymore Theatre on 47th St ? I'm in NYC next week, and plan to visit As Is, after a show. Though I would like to hear of any decent places near by for food before the show with a half decent tap list.
    Cheers

You will be closer to AS IS NYC, District Tap house and WHolefoods Columbus Circle.

Tons of food there. What's your jam? Ramen? Pizza? Thai? Burgers? Mediterranean? Tacos?

You can honestly just check Yelp out for whatever you're craving and you're going to find a great representation of it. The food as As Is is actually pretty delicious, too. But I'm guessing you're looking to sample a few different places in the area.

You should also swing by Clinton Gourmet. A bodega that actually has a pretty excellent bottle/can selection.

Yeah I had the wings there the other night. First time I’d eaten there. Very solid

Mugs Ale House is definitely my favorite burger & a beer spot for sure. Love that place.

Just wanted to add Pizza Moto right across from Other Half makes a nice 1-2 punch. Excellent pizza, but don't sleep on the starter specials, and usually has some NY craft offerings on tap.

If you like spicy, authentic Thai food, Ugly Baby isn't too far of a walk from Other Half or Folksbier. It was BYOB last time I was there, but I just noticed their menu has a drink section now, so that is probably no more. Seems like they have some decent, if not standard, craft options.

This is is a nice thread just to have for reference as a local, haha.

Been reading this thread for a while now and thought I’d piggyback the thread as I’ll be in NYC the week of 5/12 to 5/19. Specifically I was curious about any restaurants with a decent tap list near BAM. I see Black Forest Brooklyn is a quick walk away. Anything else of note? The event’s a Sunday matinee of some length (Long Day’s Journey into Night), so interested in food sooner rather than later. Can wander for more beer choices later in the evening.

Threes is also near BAM and has great beer and awesome food from the Meat Hook.

You could also head to the Dekalb Market Hall for basically all the food options any mortal could ask for, including a spot called Craft and Carry that has a decent taplist and numerous cans and bottles. I think the pierogi place has OH on tap most of the time also.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will definitely forward the DeKalb Market food options to the significant other and see what might float his boat.

Something worth mentioning if you’re going to Dekalb market @Axel59 - at the top of that building is the Alamo Drafthouse. Just inside the entrance (before a movie ticket is required) they have a bar that always seems to have an outstanding, pretty much exclusively NYC draft list.
