My wife bought me a ticket to the Best Damn Sour Fest and the list is blowing my mind. I only in the last year found sours, but love the styles. I get to choose ten from the list to try. I know a few I want to try, but was hoping those more experienced can recommend a few that may be more special. I placed an * next to a few I'm looking at.

    Cantillon Mamouche
    Cantillon Vigneronne
    Cantillon Classic Gueuze *

I opened a 2003 Mariage Parfait about two months ago, and while it was good, I enjoyed the most recent Tilquin and 3F Oude Gueuze (and for that matter, Cantillon, but you already have that checked) quite a bit more.

And as a matter of personal preference, I thought Mamouche blew away the very good Fou Foune.

My thought = if you're going to try just one Cascade, go with Apricot. IMO, it's so different from Fou' Foune that it's not redundant in the least.

Russian River Consecration would definitely be on my list.

Tilquin is mind blowing, but you might be able to get it near you in bottles.

Apline Ichabod 09 is fantastic. I too will be there. Choosing just 10 will be a challenge.

It will be a tough choice with that line up. I am leaning towards ticking off some Loons as I have not been fortunate to try any yet and the Alpine stuff as they are one of my favorite places and who knows if I would ever see those again. I have tried all the Cascade stuff minus the blueberry and have bottles of Oud Floris still, which I love.

Overall I am most curious about the Loons. They seem to be the most highly regarded sours out there. I did try a 3F Gueze and was not terribly impressed, but maybe its just the standard Gueze style. So far I really seem to enjoy Flemmish, Oud Flanders, ect style sours and sours with that base. Sang Noir, Oud Floris, and Jacobins are probably my favs so far.

Either way, I am very excited. See you BAs there! I have tattoos on my left arm and a fresh mustache for Movember, say hi.

I would choose Vig over classic and something else over MP.

I was curious about the MP just for the age of it. I guess it doesn't really make too much sense though as I have not had it fresh to compare.

Fou Foune and Vigneronne are my two favorite Cantillon. I would highly, HIGHLY suggest Tilquin as well. Stuff is amazing.

Cascade Blueberry was a slight let down, but this might be the only way to try it.

La Terrior, all the Cantillons, and I absolutely love Cascade Apricot.

I'd say anything in the top half of that list. The bottom half seems to Include a lot of things u should be able to find more easily around SD.

Framboise de Amorosa and Consecration for sure. Older batches of Consecration are much better than fresh. Of the Loons, I would skip Iris. Mamouche is interesting, but not great unless you like drinking spicy flowers. First two I mentioned are a must.

Very cool event. I can tell you I'd do:

    Cantillon Iris
    Cantillon Lou Pepe Framboise
    Cantillon Mamouche
    Cantillon Vignerrone
    Cantillon Classic Gueuze *
    Cantillon Rose De Grambinus
    Cantillon Fou Foune *
    New Belgium La Terroior
Lost Abbey Amazing Grace 2010 *
    Deschutes The Dissident 2010

Part of my reasoning in this list was what's hard to get, and that also may vary by where we live. For me, the Drie Fonteinen beers are available on the shelf at high end bottle shops, so even though they're awesome, I'd pass them up for an offbeat Cantillon like Iris even though the DFs might be better.

I'd definitely not pass up La Terroir, one of the few excellent sours to ever come out of the USA and sadly hasn't been available for years. There's rumblings of a re-release at some point but as the name of the beer itself implies, you're almost sure to get a markedly different product. Trying that beer again along with some of the best lambics ever made would be a great experience, I'm jealous!
