Younger is basically a one off version of Elder. Heady is the same year round and is canned.

In car terms Younger is a Bugatti and Heady is Defender 90. That said I don't disagree with you but I find Younger hard to rate because they so strictly control it's setting (very smart). I've had a number of Shaun's DIPA's and I thought Abner was great and between it and the two mentioned above I could be happy never having another DIPA

There's a bunch I haven't tried yet, but Arctic Panzer Wolf is pretty bad ass.

I just had this last night on draft, the first time I tried it, and loved it. Need to pick up some bottles now. Don't know if it's my favorite, but it's up there. I love Lake Erie Monster too

It's so hard to choose a favorite, but I'll go with Dreadnaught

Abner. I look forward to a day where I try something better, although I'm not sure that day will ever come

to be honest, best i've had is probably lawson's double sunshine.

after that i still have love for pliny the elder... i like heady topper (and hill farmstead abner) more, but pliny is sort of the perfectly put together west coast DIPA. enough pine, enough citrus, enough dryness.

there's a real IPA boom now though, just try around, and read BA for what people rave about. a lot of brewers who you'd never expect 5 years ago to be able to get the right hop profile are figuring it out (they could have done it 5 years ago, but they didn't prefer that flavor and customer-clamor wasn't really there yet). just try everything--this latter advice goes for all beer styles when you're "just starting out." see what you like, there's no deeper secret, nor universality.

Until I actually snag some Heady Topper, Pliny the Elder/Youger, or Bell's Hopslam (among others)...I have to go with good ol' 90-Minute IPA x Dogfish Head.

I like your style. The car references are a nice touch. Honestly I have had a lot of the highly rated DIPA's not enough to clearly declare one the best. I am trying to rectify that though . HF stuff is so highly acclaimed that it is an enticement for me to obtain. And being on the complete opposite side of the country doesn't help. Being as thier hoppy beers are growler fills only.

I am just fortunate enough to have sampled what I have. And will bee seeking HF out more to see what it's all about. How lucky we all are to be in the positions to drink these wonderful brews. Hop Heads rejoice !

I guess you really do need to invite me to your IPA tasting as I have all of those (except Younger) in my fridge.

Simtra is probably a Triple since it is over 10%. But amazing beer, in fact i've had a few other their IPAs/doubles and they have all been excellent. Is this beer getting much love on this site?
