A surprise for me this year was the Samuel Adams Pumpkin Batch. I was expecting to be let down and it was better then expected, I thought I would be hit with tons of spices but it was quite mellow and flavorful. If a good Oktoberfest beer is what your looking for I would go with Sierra Nevada or Samuel Adams. I like SA since I can get it at 7/11.

All of them. Obviously pumpkin-themed beers, and Marzens, but especially stouts. There is just something about the fall that goes hand-in-hand with stouts: the crisp, cool air; nights get dark a little bit earlier; bonfire weather. That all just speaks "sip on a nice beer tonight" to me.

The first batch of Celebration is as much a seasonal ritual as Christmas or Thanksgiving in my house.

Anything seasonal from Ayinger, Weihenstephaner, or Paulaner from Germany; from the States, I have fallen in love with KC Bier Company out of Kansas City, MO. They specialize in German classics, and their Festbier is outstanding.

I just went through a 4-pack of Moonglow and will be going back for more. It's good enough to steer my attention from all of those excellent O'fests this year- it's kind of like a nimbler Aventinus, rich and smooth. Great stuff!

Last night went to a nice BBQ place in Reading, MA. Had both Brooklyn Oktoberfest and Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest, figured what a great opportunity to contrast a E Coast and W Coast take on the same style. Wont give you all the tasting notes, but both from a bottle and poured into frosted tulip, both within freshness dates. Start with this, I would drink either at anytime during this season, however Brooklyn Oktoberfest WON! A little sweeter caramel, a nicer balance of malts, and not tongue biting crisp. Loved it, and surprised too as SN gets a lot of Love on this site! Anywho, ziggy zaggy ziggy zaggy oy oy oy
