    Hi all -

I always get the same question around this time of year. What do you want for your birthday, and what do you want for Christmas?

I don't really need/want anything I cannot buy. But, people always want to buy you something rather than a boring gift card.

So I ask you. What is the best gift for a beer lover?

Rare beer club? Which one and why?
Brewery Club? Is this possible out of state without a proxy?
Brewing equipment? (not for me, but may help others)
    what else?
(wife has done well in the past going to a local beer store over the weeks and pulling some good rares for me)

There are a few rare beers I would love, and I have put them on my list. Namely 120 Minute, if anyone can get that I know my brother can.

For me though brewery swag is always nice, or taps too. I want to start a collection of those. Also a trip to a brewery of my choice where I don't pay for anything would be nice too.

A contribution to a beer holiday is a good one. My wife took me to Portland, OR for my birthday. Of course I was very lucky, but even just starting off a "holiday fund" or something like that would be cool

My wife got me an all you can eat/drink beer crawl for me and my buddies with limo bus transport so no one had to drive. I wish my bday was every day!

My wife gave me a year-long beer club membership to Lures Bar and Grille, which has an AWESOME and ever-changing draft beer selection, not to mention half price happy hours so a 4-beer paddle is just $4. Now with the membership we have to go every month so I can get my free beer (and try several others via the paddles)! Not an extravagant gift but we have tons of fun trying new beers AND there is no question of who will be the designated driver since she gave me the membership.

For an experienced beer lover I suggest some beers that are rare, or perhaps a collection of the beers from Rochefort or some special brewery.

If a person is new at craft beer, then I suggest a case of 24 different beers that represents all different styles as well as different breweries. (Perhaps some homework can be done to determine the highest rated beer that each of these 24 breweries produces, and then choose those beers.) Depending on how many breweries are situated in the local market, the beers could be exclusively from those places, but it would be important to know ahead of time that these breweries all produce a good product.

I like a membership paid for to the bruery reserve society, always cool events and tasty beers.

Sorry, but there is nothing better than a gift card that he MUST use at the beer store.

For those of us out of state it requires a local proxy though, correct?

Rare bottles are great. Tickets to a beer festival with transport included.

Even a homemade coupon book (e.g. Mule for a Day) that I could give to my wife so she'd have to come with me to releases or on trips to buy beer.

Last year, for Christmas my parents had bought me a brewery brick from Chimay. I think I ended up giving the beers to my dad, since this was back when I was only drinking Stone and DFH. The glass is nice, but I don't really use it.

I wouldn't mind another brick from a different brewery though, like St. Bernardus.

I know most here are past this as we have tried too many things, but for a gift one year my girlfriend at the time went to a local store that sells singles and a staff member there helped her pick out a mixed case of 24 different single beers to try.

I also got some of the Sam Adams lager glasses, which used to not be sold in stores.

Honestly, even though I might not like all the beer that would come this way, I'd still appreciate it.
