I really need to try Alchemy Hour. I have not seen in on shelves yet, maybe just my bad luck.

I sort of felt the same way about Lake Erie Monster at first, but if you find it an drink it fresh.....it really grows on you as a super solid DIPA. It is on the sweeter side, but the Pineapple and grapefruit on it is insanely good.

    Year Round: Eddy Fitz
    Seasonal: Nosferatu

The only bad beer that I had from them was Glockenspiel.

Eddy Fitz is not only my favorite Great Lakes, it's probably my favorite porter. Their Christmas Ale holds a special place for me since it was the first thing I ever tried from them. But honestly, I haven't had a Great Lakes' beer that wasn't good. I would gladly drink just about anything from them.

Edmund Fitz is a long time favorite.
Dortmunder Gold also holds a special place to me.

    Just a good all-around brewery.

This one is really tough. I'm going with Edmund Fitzgerald because of the availability and it's one of the beers that got me into good beer in the first place back in 03. Otherwise, Christmas Ale, Nosferatu, Blackout Stout, and "Alchemy" are amazing seasonals.

Had Lake Erie Monster for the first time last week and followed up by buying 90 Minute IPA this week. SAME GODDAMN BEER. That being said Eliot Ness is far and away Great Lakes' best and most underrated beer.

Question: Has anyone else encountered a house 'cocoa' flavor in Great Lakes beers? I have given up drinking any of their beers EXCEPT Eddy Fitz and Blackout Stout because every one of their beers has a signature aftertaste to me like cocoa or maybe Malt-o-Meal. I'd like to try the Wright Pils but am afraid of that flavor creeping into the beer.

The Wright pils had no such cocoa flavor and was hearty czech style pils that reminds one why bread is always on the table in a kind house.

Wouldja just look at the variety in these responses? How many other breweries can claim to have such success with such a wide variety of styles? Very much looking forward to trying the IPL later this week.

Had the chance to drink a bunch of GL beers during a recent trip to Western NY. As a lager lover, Dortmunder Gold and Eliot Ness were fantastic. Also, Ed Fitz is one of the best US Porters I've had.

Great brewery - I'd take their beers over 100's of useless ones I get around Boston.
