I love a few of Ommegangs offerings, but I don't remember their Indulgence being amongst my favorite. I found a pack of the Breckenridge Chocolate Cream Stout, at a deeply discounted price. Not earth shattering, but a light(er) alternative to some of the others. Of those you listed, I've had/like the Founder's the most.

Weyerbacher Old Heathen is probably the most chocolatey-tasting one I can think of, especially for a RIS. It's not very expensive and comes in 6-packs, as well. Not overly complex, but definitely worth trying if you're looking for a smooth/easy-drinking/cheap imperial stout. The beer is absolutely delicious, IMO.

Bell's Expedition is another one that's strong on the chocolate flavor, especially for something that's over 10%. I agree with someone's suggestion of Breckenridge 72, as well.

Personally, I didn't get a lot of chocolate from Choklat and Brooklyn BCS, but I guess they're worth a try. Especially BBCS. It's a really good value.

Copper Kettle Mexican Chocolate stout is amazing. Great divide choco-oak yeti is hands down my favorite though.

Southern Tier also has an amazing creme Brule stout. I love it

Beer doesn't contain chocolate, and IMO, doesn't have much "chocolate" flavor compared to other imperial stouts.

Up until this point, I have found Clown Shoes packaging to be more interesting than their beer. I haven't seen their chocolate offering yet, but the spicy additions do make it sound interesting, so I'll keep an eye out. I grabbed a bottle of Pimp (which I just noticed is a year and half old and "retired"), and I look forward to trying their attempt at a double brown.

I actually came across a retired bottle from them as well, of Let My People Go, and I was very unimpressed. But Chocolate Sombrero was much sweeter than I was expecting, in a pleasant way. Definitely lived up to the label art in my opinion :stuck_out_tongue:

If my memory serves me right, Choklat was the most chocolate forward beer I've tasted to date but IMO that doesn't make it the best. Mogli might be my favorite of the style do to how well rounded and easy drinking it is. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that it's closer to 8% and might not meet the OP's wishlist of "imperial" chocolate.

I'd also agree that certain imperial stouts such as Expedition, as mentioned above, and Czar can lean more towards chocolate than coffee flavors without actually containing cocoa. In some cases I feel that it's due to barrel treatments (Oak aged Yeti), as the oak lends vanilla flavor and the time spent in the barrel mellows the heavy amounts of hops used.

I would suggest trying some barrel aged stouts along with beers that actually contain cocoa and/or vanilla. I recently got to taste a Vietnamese speedway and the lactose along with the roasted malt and coffee made for a really slick chocolaty brew.

Southern Tier Choklat and Great Divide Chocolate Oak-Aged Yeti are the best ones, as a few others have said.

Being Vietnamese, I am extremely curious about this beer you mention. Just looked it up - doesn't sound like I'm gonna be able to try some any time soon.

It is one biggest dissapoint to me for a while. Taste just essence, no real chocolate at all.

Hey, dude; Brooklyn Black Chocolate isn't actually brewed with the stuff. Just chocolate malt. Lots of other chocolate beers actually have cocoa nibs and shit like that in it.

I don't know? When chocolate is put in the name of a beer, I kinda flip out and don't touch it. Imperials, ok, I know there is chocolate. When the name of a beer starts with chocolate, so much ignorance gets involved I deny it!!!
Just me, and just saying no need to overpower the chocolate :sunglasses:

Sounds like someone needs to send a bottle of Christmas cheer

Seriously, I think the one thing I kind of miss about living in Lancaster County is Spring House. I would love to see them start to distribute on a regional scale.
