Anyone familiar with Ontario alcohol laws knows of the dreaded LCBO, which holds a monopoly on all craft brew sales. If it's not on their magic list, you cannot get it. At all. In the province of Ontario. Short of physically going to a brewer, you cannot purchase an "off-brand" product in Ontario. In this day and age of a world economy, it is maddening. That being said, I'm looking for a few new ideas for hop-centric IPA which I can actually get my hands on. HopBot, Mad Tom, Head Stock, Red Racer are all viable... anything else out there? Cheers!!

GLB Lake Effect is brilliant. It's part of their Tank Ten series, so limited quantities. Been driving around cleaning out LCBOs lately. Sawdust City Lone Pine is also quite good. Again you might want to use the search function on the LCBO website to determine availability. Goose Island IPA is another award winner from our friends down in the States.
    Good luck in your hunt!
    Cheers!

Do you want to throw in TBS too? cause that Hickson's IPA is pretty good as well. Also finest kind is a regular at select TBS. Fat Tug is also a reg now at LCBO, Lagunita's IPA at LCBO. Smashbomb IPA, Collective Arts Ransack the Universe IPA to name a few.

Not living in Ontario - but if Fat Tug is available in LCBO then it will be hard to beat.

Make sure Fat Tug is fresh, since the last bottle I saw at the LCBO was bottled in October. From the US, Stone IPA, Liberty Ale and SNPA are all great when fresh.

I found Lake Effect a little off when I had it last month. Red Racer used to be a favourite, but I haven't had it in a while. Jutsu from Bellwoods is fantastic, it is probably my favourite in the general style available in Ontario.

I second Lone Pine IPA and Ransack The Universe IPA, both are phenomenal regular LCBO listings.

Did you get your hands on Lake Effect?
I hunted down some Fat Tug and found it to be average. Could have been the ones I got. Laquita was ok.
This all reaffirmed the idea that GLB Lake Effect is the best on the market currently for my tastes.

In my opinion, when it's available, GLB's Thrust! is the best Canadian IPA on the market. It's a seasonal tank ten release, but I've seen it throughout LCBO's surrounding the brewery.

I've got some Thrust on hold at a secret LiCBO location.

I did get some Lake Effect. I also have picked up a head cold. So I haven't tried it yet, as I don't want my palate off-base for the first taste. Cheers.

There's a reason I didn't divulge where I located it. I don't want you to beat me to the store, although the very nice gal on the other end is holding it for me for tonight. Cheers!!!

Just drinking one as I write! Very refreshing beer, and the hops come through very noticeably. Not overly bitter, either. However, I find it a little "cloudy". Unfiltered?

Although it's an APA rather than an IPA, Nickel Brook's Naughty Neighbour Pale Ale is also quite good.

Good on ya. The weekend begins! I like that cloudiness. I was under the assumption it was a result of the cohumulones from the hops. Unfiltered for sure. Had a GLB Life Sentence IIIPA last night. Looked like a thick Halifax fog. Bloody delicious though. And it put me in a bit of a fog at 10%. Enjoy your refreshments!

Only one left in Ontario as I see it but I think they play games with the search system sometimes. Will be interesting to see how privatization goes.

My weekend always begins on Friday at 3:00, although today it started at noon (was at a friend's for Lunch and he offered a beer - what was I to do?). Just purchased one of the few remaining cases of Lagunita IPA at a local LCBO. Not often that we can get great US beers here, and have never had the opportunity to try it before, but hear that they're very hard to find. Also purchased a Nickel Brock Bourbon Aged Cuvee Reserve Ale (Belgian Sour) - local Ontario beer. Looking forward to a great evening.
