I maintained and continue to maintain that Pliny is not nearly as good as it's made to be on here. And I maintained that Westy 12 and Dark Lord were as well back when they were all the rage in the community. Heady is legit though and I've been to several DIPA blind tastings over the years where Heady ran away with it against other top contenders. I get what you're saying, and I mostly agree that there's a cult of personality that gets behind a lot of beers on here, but I don't put Heady in that category.

I homebrewed a Citra/Simcoe IPA last year and it was indeed awesome. The combination of tropical fruit flavors and pine flavors was sublime.

I am not aware of any commercial IPAs that are just a combination of Citra & Simcoe.

    Cheers!

Working at two beer pubs next to each other with 87 taps between the two places this is a ridiculously hard question to answer. How about I name some breweries that I trust to make excellent IPA's instead:
Alpine,Russian River,3 Floyd's,Knee Deep, Ballast Point, Green Flash,Stone, Golden Road, Altamont Beer Works, 101 North, Drake's, Bell's, Founders....I give up this is too hard of a question to answer, I sholdn't have even posted.

Well brew it again and send it this way!

I'm not aware of any that exclusively use Citra and Simcoe, but I know that when used together (perhaps with other hops) it's usually a winner in my book. DirtWolf is the most recent example of this comb working well.

Yup, DirtWolf is indeed a tasty beer. Citra and Simcoe are in there but so is Chinook and Mosaic.

“Whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops”

    Cheers!

P.S. I am drinking a Simcoe/Amarillo IPA presently. That is my version of Alpine Duet. Simcoe and Amarillo also play very well together.

    IPA:
    Hitachino Nest Japanese Classic Ale
    Nomád Karel Česká IPA 16°

    IIPA:
Bells Hopslam (before the honey overtakes it)
Gänstaller-Bräu Green Gold IPA (lager IIPA)
DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon

    BIPA:
    Thornbridge Wild Raven
Hoppin Frog Hop Heathen Imperial Black Ale

    Hop forward Belgian:
    Orval (< 8 weeks)
    Taras Boulba

I have had Heady a couple of times, pretty nice brew but just another nice IIPA. I do applaud them for actually having their own unique yeast string but if you are not local, don’t see the need to go through the effort & cost of obtaining it.
I am not the biggest hophead out there & yes the Heady I have had was fresh.

Given the variability of human taste, no beer is ever going to be the best one, just like no band is ever going to be the greatest ever for everyone.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. It didn't fall off a balcony. I was sitting on my balcony. The glass was on a table with a regular pint glass. Both were empty. The breeze only blew over the IPA glass. It was extremely thin and lightweight.
