to not rock ur palate w crazy flavors. shoot for some of the classics. stone ipa, dfh 60, bells 2hearted, sierra nevada torpedo, goose island ipa (is this still brewed?) and lets not forget our friends across the pond w greene king ipa or sam smiths ipa etc. i wouldnt waste your time or money chasing after exclusives or rare ones at this point. figure out what u really enjoy first. have fun!

90 minute IPA was the beer that brought me over to the hop side of the force. Too malty for me now, but a good choice if you are not sure that you are into hops.

Yes its still brewed although now its being brewed in upstate NY, not in Chicago. Part of the InBev thing. Still a delicious beer IMO although more of an English style IPA than American. I love it and the price is right.

Dude here in NJ for IPA you gotta go Kane Head High it's pretty amazing. For IIPA both Kane's Overhead and Carton's 077XX are both also fantastic. It's easy these days.

If it's local and fresh it's probably a good choice.

You can't really go wrong with anything hoppy from victory. headwaters, hop devil, ranch, and dirt wolf are all delicious.

I have only been into IPA's about 9 months myself.

First one I liked was Lagunitas.
Dogfish made me wonder why I would ever want to drink an IPA and slowed down my interest.
Then Sculpin hooked me for good.

Stone Enjoy By 4/20 did the same thing for me on DIPA.

Most of all, try to find the freshest IPA you can. To me, this is very important.

Am I the only BA who dislikes threads like this? When people ask for beer suggestions it reminds me of the contestants on the Price Is Right gameshow, listening to answers from the mob crowd. Why don't you go through the experience of finding the good beer yourself? You'll learn something in the process. Sorry if I'm being a dick.

musicman7070 nailed it. Don't blast their palate right away. I like his list and would also add Bitter American, Sweetwater IPA, Founder's Centennial and the new Stone session IPA. If you live in central Ohio, Columbus IPA is fantastic.

Regular IPAs you can get easy are Lags Maximus and Founders Centennial IPA. If you can find some Stone Enjoy By... The 4-20-14 was excellent. In my opinion the higher abv IPA are less bitter (penny like, i guess) centennial is 7.2 but above 8 is more a good target. Enjoy!

I'll go with two of the IPA's that turned me on. When drinken now they seem like a good fit for a newbie in addition to being enjoyable for IPA veterans.

    AleSmith IPA
    Lagunitas IPA

You might want to try starting with some english IPAs. They are nowhere near as hoppy.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet, but Hopslam...

For me hopslam was the gateway to IPAs. While it is an IIPA and naturally more intense, the sweetness made the apparent IBUs much less than a regular IPA like, stone or Lagunitas. After I developed a taste for hops, I was able to appreciate single IPAs a lot more and the rest is history.

It might be worth noting that this is the name of a really good IPA, not an opinionated statement.
