I believe both are Made from a minimum of 51% corn, one filtered and placed in charred new oak barrels, the other aged in new oak charred barrels and aged for a minimum of one year in Kentucky to be legally labeled Kentucky Bourbon. Most bourbon is aged 4 years obviously some more, not a clue on Jack I don't like it. IMO it tastes like cheap Bourbon.

I don't know where the casks come from in which Boulevard ages their Bourbon Barrel Quad, but damn I love that beer.

I used to believe this until I tried Funky Buddha's Jack Daniels Barrel Aged Old Fashioned Ale, first sip and I knew it was Jack Daniels. This may not be true with all barrel aged beers, but there was no doubt about this one.

Might I suggest that you "beer advocates" stick to the bubbly stuff you know and stop embarrassing yourselves making wild accusations about what is and isn't bourbon... Don't believe the first thing you wiki-read and regurgitate.

We use a variety of barrels and each bottling is a blend of them. Some of the distillers we have barrels from include:

Heaven Hill, Four Roses, Jack Daniel, Buffalo Trace, Templeton Rye and Dickel

Community in Dallas released three batches of a RIS. The first one had a little JD barrel blended in but the second batch IIRC was 50% JD. That particular batch had a prominent smokey, leathery, tobacco taste. It was actually my favorite of the three batches. I usually don't like JD minus single barrel, but for the money would rather buy something else.

Ah, but retired beers do show up on the brewery listings page, just probably not where you're looking. All you gotta do is click on "Archived" next to "Beers."

WRT Bourbon v. Whiskey, I was always under the belief that "Bourbon" specifically had to come from Kentucky. Something I heard maybe a long while back. Never heard a better explanation (nor did I seek one out) but I've always been a huge fan of JD and never accused it of being a bourbon. Not from Kentucky and all........

If indeed there are upcoming releases with beer BA'd in JD barrels, I've seriously got to get to them BUT with that being said, I think a higher gravity and less bitter Scottish Ale (not a Wee Heavy mind you) would be the best match for a JD BA'd beer. Just my opinion though. To me the taste profiles line up a bit better than an RIS or barley wine. Or even Wee Heavy for that matter

Came here to post this. Thanks for beating me to it.

Also, sidenote, has anyone tried Jeffersons Ocean yet? At $80 a bottle I have yet to pull the trigger. I don't believe it is just a gimmick, but 80 bucks is 80 bucks.

Knob Creek single barrel small batch is my go to. Smooth at 120 proof, lots on interisting flavors too. Angel Envy is new here, not sure how Port Wine barrels help here.

Same with Scotch. Lost Spirits makes whiskey that if it were identically made within Scotland, would be scotch, but because they are in California, they can't call it so.

I came here to say this. It's a great beer. Super balanced, not overly rich, cocoa powder notes, vanilla / caramel. For people that expect their stouts motor oil thick or super sweet or full of adjuncts, this may seem unimpressive. Screw those people. ;-)

YOU COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG. JACK DANIELS IS TENNESEE SOUR MASH NOT BOURBON.

Jack Daniels is charcoal filtered, bourbon is not. That's what makes it Tennesee Sour Mash.
