    Evening, ladies & gents.

I’m in Philadelphia this weekend with @siege06nd and we’re looking for the best lager breweries in and around the city. Classic German, Czech and American style lagers. Sessionable lagers.

Any and all recommendations are much appreciated. Happy Friday all, and enjoy your holiday weekend.

"...the best lager breweries in and around the city."

You will read lots of responses, I presume, for in the city being Human Robot. Having stated that there are other "in the city" breweries which produce tasty lagers. But if you have limited time to explore then a visit to Human Robot would be a good idea.

In the suburbs of Philly there are many craft breweries producing high quality lagers. I will name a few but my list will be incomplete:
    • Sterling Pig (Media, PA)
    • Von C Brewing (Norristown, PA)
    • Forest & Main (Ambler, PA)
    • Troubles End (Collegeville, PA)
    • Workhorse Brewing (King of Prussia, PA)
    • Locust Lane (Frazier, PA)
    • etc.
None of the above are Lager Breweries per se but they have high quality lagers on tap (some on Lukr side-pull faucets).

    Cheers!

P.S. And in Philly (and suburbs) there are lots of great craft beer bars which will also have a good selection of lagers on tap.

    In the city proper:

Human Robot is your must stop for German and Czech lagers. Tmavy 13 is my favorite of theirs. And eat a sandwich from Poe's while you are there (it's inside the brewery but a separate business, you order on your phone)

Love City's Love City Lager is pretty good American Lager. Looks like they also have a Pilsner and a Kolsch on right now https://static1.squarespace.com/sta...9ed5/1673542643610/Menu_Taproom_1.12.2023.pdf

Yards also has a half dozen lagers on draft right now, their Loyal Lager is a good easy drinking beer, and their Long Jawns seasonal dark lager is very good.

Has this been seen in any stores? I shop at 4 different places in the LancasterChester/Berks area and have not found any this year.

Yes, I picked up a six pack at my local store (Montgomery County) back around Thanksgiving.

Just gonna throw Triple Bottom in the mix since they haven’t been mentioned…I had several of their lagers last year and thought they were very very well made.

On a plus they are very close to both Love City and Yards.

Just wanted to pop in and thank everyone for the recommendations. We hit Tired Hands first. Then went to Human Robot and WOW…what a spot! Then stumbled to Fermentary Form which was a cool speakeasy type brewery with great wild ales. Philly beer scene is in good hands!!

I’ll second @siege06nd and thank all of you fine BA’s for the reco’s. We had a terrific time at Human Robot yesterday. I couldn’t have asked for a better spot to fit our needs. The beers were outstanding, as were the half dozen milk tubes we tackled. And yeah, we followed with a stop by Fermentary Form and enjoyed some top shelf sours.

None of this would have happened if it wasn’t for all of you fine BA’s. Thanks again for your sage advice and wise recommendations. It made for the highlight of our weekend.

I didn’t answer right away, since I’m from out of town. But if it’s not Human Robot hands down I’d be shocked. That place turned me into a lager guy.

For folks who are fans of lagers, a reminder: Philly Bierfest 2023 is occurring towards the end of the month 2/25/23 at The German Society of Philadelphia. This annual event has been on hiatus the past couple of years due to the pandemic. It is not solely a lager event but since there is a German theme here, including imported German beers, there will be lot of lagers to drink.
