Aside from Prost, what's your favorite local German style beer? Need some suggestions for an Oktoberfest party.

Polestar Pilsner is really good. I'd take Lefthand's Marzen over Prost's as well (the 6'er of Prost I got this year was a butter-bomb).

Prost isn't the same as they once were. I'd go with Grimm Brothers, Left Hand, and FCB instead.

Honestly, every Grimm Brothers beer I've had has been good. In particular their dunkel, pils, and oktoberfest seem appropriate. From Left Hand I'd recommend Polestar and Oktoberfest. Haystack is also great for a weissbier.
FCB's Oktoberfest is excellent and I think they might still have some rauch doppelbocks around if you look. They should be extra smoky after 9 additional months in the bottle.
Dry Dock's Oktoberfest is the best one around, but they never brew enough of it. It's long gone as far as I know.

Monarch Pils and Rolling Thunder Dortmunder from Snake River are quite good.

Me, too. Prost had both last year. No clue if that will continue.

Had both, but I'd like it bottled, I'd rather not pay $22 for a 64oz. growler of a doppelbock that should be $10.

Based on Prost's history with packaging, I'd rather not have anything bottled from them...

This is actually one area I wish FCB would step up. They've made some truly excellent pale and "normal" bocks, but their doppel is smoked. I'd love to see a normal one from them.

Sorry, I meant that as two points. 1) I'd like a bottled doppelbock (wasn't meaning bottled from Prost and 2) I'm not paying Prost prices.

    Totally agree with you.

I have this problem with Wee Heavy's too... some good one's out there but they are peeted or smoked.

Have you Fort Collins' bocks? Their doppelbock and maibock are exceptional imo.

Also, I like GDs doppelbock. Aged one for a year, great stuff.

The Ft Collins Oktoberfest was pretty damned stunning. I'm a German bier nerd and I was really pleasantly surprised by what they came up with. Crisp, sweet, & malty with the right hops for the style... not quite a marzen, but more akin to the lighter styles you actually get in the tents in Munich. It really was a knockout.
I haven't been able to find it recently, unfortunately. I heard they were caught unaware and didn't realize it would be as big of a hit as it was... so it's already done and out.
Srsly, if anybody sees that around Denver proper or down south in Littleton/Highlands Ranch, lemme know. I need more of that beer in my life, dammit.

I believe Grapevine might still have the FCB Oktoberfest. It really is damn good.
I don't think they made a ton of it as it was on tap all over the place a few weeks ago. I haven't seen it lately.
