I discovered the remnants of a bottle bomb behind my printer today. 3/4 of the bottle cleared at least 3.5' to get above the desk.

In a nervous panic I thought I could save the rest by simply releasing the pressure and re-sealing with my trusty ole two-hander. I was re-sealing the 5th or 6th one when the bottle just fucking exploded. All is good except for my left thumb, which was an inch or so from the bottle when it decided to not be a bottle anymore. I've never had any type of injury bleed so badly. I eventually got the gash under control and realized how deep it was, and how lucky I was that a nasty cut to my thumb was the worst of it. 8 hours later there's no more bleeding, but my thumb feels like it was hit by a hammer. I still cannot fathom how I could have overcarbed by that much, but it was a blessing in that it made me quickly outgrow that "i'm invincible" stage of homebrewing. Tonight I purchased a brew hauler because my 9 lives are running thin and I'd rather not lose an arm carrying a carboy like a toddler.

ran out of keg space several months back, had to bottle condition half a batch of German Pils. that half picked up a brett infection. started tasting like Orval so I entered it somewhere as "hoppy patersbier with brett at bottling." 41 pts, bronze medal for 16E. Heh.

I have been lucky, all but one of my beers has turned out as expected. The one that did not was due to me buying and using a space heater on a cold day without reading the directions carefully. I thought I had it set to 65, but in fact was just set to high. when I got home from work it was 80 degrees in the beer room. Beer is drinkable but just not right.
