Just in the last 18 months or so, I've been trying more lagers. There are some wonderful ones from MN brewers. Mostly I've been trying the ones from August Schell and Summit because they are readily available in my local liquor store. In addition, I found the Gluek's Pilsener Pale Lager to be tasty (yes it is contract brewed in CO, but.the brewer is MN).

I know there are other, smaller, brewers who brew lagers, but I don't frequent taprooms much, so ...

My current top 2 are Summit's Keller Pils and Schell's Fort Road Helles, but that may be because they've been in my 'fridge all summer...

Schell's Oktoberfest, Maifest, and Bock are also really good.

What do you consider to be in the top 3 to 5 MN lagers?

I wish Schell's would do their Keller Pils again. That was probably tops for me.. I can't think of too many other MN lagers I've had. They were all pretty much from Schell's or Summit which you generally cannot go wrong with.

Fair State is doing some good Lagers also, great Pils and Vienna. Additionally I've had good pilsners at Wild Mind, Sisyphus, Utepils, and Badger Hill.

Got my eyes out for this because Trader Joe's is supposed to be carrying it.

To the thread's subject -- too loaded a question for me, I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite best.

    My favorite Minnesota lagers:
    • Surly Pils series (especially 5, 1, and 3, in that order)
    • Wild Mind Pils
    • HammerHeart Weltenwanderer
    • Fair State Rauchbock

My favorite that are bottled/canned and regularly or seasonally available:
    • Bauhaus Wonderstuff
    • Fair State Pils
    • Bauhaus Schwandtoberfest
    • Schell's FireBrick

Also relevant: https://www.beeradvocate.com/ratebeer/?path=/top/all-lager/us/minnesota. Note that this list is missing Baltic Porters as well as smoked lagers and thus missing the top-rated lager in Minnesota, Surly Smoke.

As far as regularly available lagers, I would say my top are:
    • Schell's Fort Road Helles
    • Schell's Firebrick
    • Bauhaus Wonderstuff
    • Fair State Vienna

    • Fair State's Keller Blanc
    • Schell's Frost Hop Helles & Pils
    • Summit Keller Pils
    • Indeed Derailed Series: Zwickelbier
I'm not sure on the availability of the Indeed Zwickelbier and FS Keller Blanc, but they do sell growlers of both and I have seen them available on multiple visits throughout the year.

I've been drinking a lot of Indeed B-Side Pils over the past few months. It's made entirely from German ingredients which is a nice thing to see from an American brewery.

I really like Summit's regular old pilsener. I really, really like their Keller Pils. That being said, I've been enjoying so many Minn brewed lagers lately, it's hard for me to pick a favorite.

Tough to narrow down but some great beers listed so far....In no order, Schell Bock, Schell Ofest, Schell Ft. Road, Fair State Vienna, Summit Keller Pils, Indeed Zwiekelbier...I'd add Barley John's Maibock....I have Summit Unchained Vienna cooling for later tonight and I am excited to try...

I'm sure I'm forgetting some other worthy options....

If I had to pick one it would be Schell Bock

Indeed Mexican Honey is top notch.

And a dark horse, but Surly Smoke is pretty killer, too.

When Surlyfest is on, it's hard to beat. I get that it isn't traditional, but damn it's good.

Others would be Bauhaus Wonderstuff, basically anything from the Schell's Pilsner series, and Summit Keller Pils. Summit Oktoberfest can be pretty damn good too.

Has anyone seen Third Street Brewers Tears lager out yet? I get more excited for new Lagers than these NE IPAs.
