I was looking at a thread from 2015 that was talking about Legends, the Wine Grotto, and a couple other climate controlled storage places. What has everyone's recent experience been with these locations, are these the best facilities, and are there any others that are decently priced in the North OC area? I have been keeping my beer in my apartment but now that summer is around the corner I want to look at potentially investing in a proper cellar environment.

I don't know anything about where you live but have you thought about getting one of those top opening freezers? They're typically about 3 feet high and can hold a good amount of bottles. Throw a temperature controller in there and you're set plus it's a one time fee rather than a monthly. The temperature controller takes about 5 minutes to set up even if you've never used one before too. Just a thought but like I said, don't know your situation or how many bottles you need to store.

Good idea; I live in Fullerton and it can get pretty warm inside. I was doing some measuring and it appears I could fit maybe 4 cases in one freezer of 5 cubic feet, which would be just right for me (at this point haha). I would imagine the energy consumption per month is on the higher side?

I have a chest freezer + temp controller and love it. Compressor did kick after ~18months though, but CC warranty got me a new one, and they're like $2-400 depending on size. Keeps a more steady temperature than my wine fridge and I don't have to leave my place if I want to look at my 'long term' storage beers

That's awesome. What brand freezer and temperature controller do you use, are some better than others? I really like the idea of having it all right there and not having to drive to pick anything up.

I got mine from Best buy. Can't find the model number anywhere but it's igloo. Been running that and the temp controller(Johnson) for three years now with no issues.
Increase in electricity will be negligible compared to renting a space, I'd imagine.
One thing I would suggest you do if you go that route is check out the model you want in person. Mine has a little ledge on the inside (I thought it would be a cube of empty space) and that ledge does make it tough to fit things in optimally. It's the only thing I'm unhappy with about my setup

I went to Lowe's yesterday and found that little ledge on all the models, was very confused as to why that was. It's possible it's on the majority of other models too, who knows. I actually thought the 5 cubic feet one would be good but now that I saw it in person the 7 cubic feet might be better for storing 2 cases side by side because that ledge that gets in the way. Leaning towards this option for sure. How many bottles do you have inside the Igloo?

I'm not nearly as organized as some people on these forums with spreadsheets and what not but I'd estimate maybe 50-75 bottles of varying volumes. I tried keeping it organized with milk cartons so I can easily partiton different styles/breweries but gave up on that bc it just wasn't optimized with the dimensions of the coolers so it's pretty much just a free for all in there now.
