I'm no scientist, but...exercise makes you sweat. Sweating makes you lose fluids. Not replacing said fluids leads to bad, bad things. Yes, OVERconsumption is a problem, but simplifying it down to "don't drink fluids when you work out because you're not actually losing any" is extremely dangerous advice that should be ignored by every active person.

Now, back on topic: I usually like something with a bit of a citrus feel to it after a run. I don't drink beer after every run or ride, but on the occasions where I do, there's something about that flavor profile that just really hits the spot.

I usually reach for lower abv. stuff regardless of the situation, but I especially do it if I have been working up a heck of a sweat. I can't imagine having a beer over 6% when I've been physically active.

I remember last summer during one of the 90+ degree days with massive humidity. I had plans to go to dinner with my brother that night and I wanted to have a couple of beers before I met up with him. I also wanted to go for a run. I ran about 4 miles, came home and hosed myself off (literally with the hose) and then sat on the porch crushing Oberon's until I stopped sweating and could actually take a shower. Let me tell you, those three Oberon's went down mighty easy and they were damn tasty.

Pelican Cream Ale or the Firestone Pilsner are my two favorite post run beers.

I crave something crisp, like a pale ale, but Live Oak Hefeweizen is always soooo easy to down!

I've always found Jacks Abby Hoponius Union to be a very enjoyable beer post run. Lately, I've tried Gose's and Berliner's (hence the Avatar.) Salt + beer, makes sense.

After a quick sprint to the beer fridge, the first one that I grab usually does the trick.

Shuddering is a bit much no? We have no idea what kind of distance the OP is running, what his/her body-type is, or the climate/conditions, to name just a few variables. And we also have no idea what constitutes "lots" to the OP.

And 16 recorded deaths doesn't scream "many" (per your first post). There are hundreds of marathons every year with tens of thousands of participants - 16 recorded deaths is relatively tiny. I'm sure many more people die during marathons from other reasons. And the article gives no indication as to what these people (ordinary or otherwise) were like whatsoever. Or what they did or did not believe.

Marquis - you're great at pointing out flaws/myths perpetuated by BAs and internet articles regarding beer. I'd be wary of falling into the same trap yourself (quoting internet articles out of context, as if they were fact, to people that likely don't know better) regarding a topic you don't seem so well-versed on.

After a good long run I'll have about two glasses of water. Then I llike to take a big rip off of my....

After that I'll usually have whatever tasty cold IPA is in my fridge. Lately I've really been enjoying All Day IPA after a run but I'd drink just about any good beer. No stouts though too heavy

Mother Earth's 2nd Wind Pale Ale isn't bad. Has 3 dudes trail running on the can. They're even wearing 5 Fingers, haha!

I often like to have a beer or two after a workout (after lots of water, protein shake and some good food obviously). I read a study about a year ago (I am trying to find it so I can share it with all of you) that drinking a beer after working out can actually be beneficial to your health because it helps replace nutrients, calories and yes you guessed it, water!

I usually opt for a nice pale ale or IPA, but a saison or summer ale can be just as nice and refreshing.

Hopefully I can find it soon.

BCAAs>Water>Two Hearted is my go to progression for long runs. Shorter runs I may go straight to the Two Hearted but water is soon to follow. I hate carrying water with me on runs, so no matter how appealing a beer is post-run I almost always start with at least a moderate amount of water.
