I haven't been there in a while, but my wallet and I both like the Alon HEB. Their selection is usually pretty solid and their prices often have Gabriel's beat by a few bucks.

    100% this. ^^^^^^^
Plus the fact that the beer manager is a BA who really gives a shit about his customers.

I can attest to this. I have never met the man, but I have traded with him and he is a great guy. He is a pretty good home brewer also.

And he is honest, unlike the Cantillon/Russian River exclusive contract negotiating huckster mentioned above.

I know, I know old joke, but this actually happened. That along with the trunk incident and their prices have kept a few of the SA locals and I away from Gabriel's. The last time I went there was to congratulate Scottie(pwsoldier) after he announced his wife was pregnant.

Yup, I was offered the opportunity to buy some of the infamous trunk beer. I have not set for in that store in 2 years.
Spend your cash however you want but Gabriels gets none of mine.

That said, they are pretty convenient if you are coming from out of town and plan on stopping at Freetail. They did have a nice glassware selection too.

I like Gabriel's. I live practically right next to the best beer selection in town. Plus they've been able to get me harder to get kegs for the home bar - stuff that would normally be reserved for commercial accounts. I don't find their prices too out of line.

Spec's DeZavala is great too. Also Central Market and whole foods.

And I knowbthere are haters, but I like the friendly spot for a pint or two. But I don't order their "rare" stuff.....

Haters is a bit extreme... We asked for a explanation for no prices etc and we were just served BS. Haters would slander the establishment and you for going there. Why have a couple of pints? I encourage you to spend your beer budget. We (haters) just rather go else where and do as we were told to be friendly. Now back on OP topic, I recommend Filling Station or Stella if you go to Southtown.

    .
I'm not arguing that some of their prices are stupid high!!! But I do enjoy the atmosphere. OP, food and beer, Montery also has a decent bottle selection and food.

If you go to GAbriels try to check the dates on anything you are looking at. I was excited to see some Goose Island there maybe a month after they arrived in town. Checked the dates, and it was over a year old. I've put back other 6 packs that were way out of season. You shouldn't be able to buy octobofests in the middle of the summer.
